***note for readers: this was written in december 2023 when I first started this project... a lot has changed! check out my next update here
Welcome to spameater.sol! As a cybersecurity student and crypto enthusiast, I am thrilled to unveil an initiative aimed at enhancing the security of the Solana blockchain ecosystem. The core of this project is a honeypot wallet designed to attract and analyze spam and scam activities.
Purpose: This wallet serves as a magnet for unwanted spam and potential scams, allowing us to study and understand these malicious activities. By doing so, we aim to develop better detection mechanisms and security practices for the Solana community, which I'll be publishing here.
No Interaction Needed: We advise against interacting with the wallet. Its sole purpose is to attract spam and scams, so any interaction is unnecessary and your funds will be lost. Likewise, any bots or scammers intending to drop useless NFTs or rug tokens will lose them as well, and we can learn from them.
Transparency and Sharing: Findings from this project will be regularly published here. Expect insights on spam patterns, scam techniques, and effective countermeasures.
How: Initially this will all be manual (burning NFTs and tokens, analyzing the contracts, attracting spam, etc).
I would like to automate these tasks in the future, in addition to spam reporting for any web host the threat actors are using, ingesting and analyzing the data on-chain with an API for an explorer, burning with Sol Incinerator programmatically, and whatever will make this project more effective while building upon my current security skillset.
