Valuable Content Is At The Heart Of WEB3's Future

Floating For Now
In the formative stages of any new idea, everything floats. We are seeing this with WEB3. New platforms keep popping up and new communities are formed. However, most participants have arrived with the sole intention of extraction. However, as I have alluded to, quality content, influence, and accuracy are the tools through which value extraction occurs in WEB3. However, a combination of ignorance and excitement creates an alternative reality.
In this reality, extraction occurs through means that make no logical sense. This is primarily the same dynamic that dominated the NFT market in 2020. Tremendous value is accredited without the presence of any underlying or fundamental value. As I mentioned, in the beginning, anything floats. However, as with the NFT market, authentic reality eventually sets in. What tends to unfold at this point is a shift regarding the categorization of value.
It’s at this stage of the journey that valuable creators will become apparent. Various aspects of content make it valuable. There is no singular factor. However, there are a few key factors that contribute to the creation of valuable content. These include:

  • It is helpful
  • It is informative
  • It is profitable
  • It is exclusive

These are the four primary aspects in my opinion. However, they are not absolutes. It is important to remember that! As WEB3 matures and expands, what is considered upvote-worthy will shrink. In other words, specific content of a certain caliber will begin attracting much attention. Value-based categorization will always be at the core of any monetized system.
Many will perhaps disagree with me. However, if you consider the current direction of WEB3, they will be proven incorrect. For instance, subscription-based content on INLEO agrees with what I am saying. Many have not realized what the underlying message of the introduction of subscription-based content is…

Certain content is more valuable and those wanting to consume it need to pay a premium to do so.

Isn’t it obvious? Why would I pay to consume certain content when content is abundant and readily available to me at all times? The simple and most obvious answer is that it is more valuable. Being exposed to such content enhances my life in some way. Regardless of what many may believe, all content is not created equal, and certain individuals within the WEB3 realm are now waking up to this obvious, yet disguised reality.
I have been saying this for years. However, it has not been heard largely due to centralized partnerships within decentralized models. In other words, they don’t need anyone to assign value to their content, they join forces and create their own value. However, as with any artificial value system, it has a limited shelf life. You cannot fool all of the people all of the time.
The most apparent evidence of this dynamic can be seen on the Steemit blockchain. It’s packed with cartels, has no meaningful engagement, and yet has a market cap of almost $100 million. These ecosystems don’t stand a chance unless those involved change their ways. It will be interesting to see the leading platforms in the years to come.

Final Thoughts
The maturation of any industry produces a set of rules, even if unspoken. Certain behaviors will eventually be “outlawed” by WEB3 users. Being an on-chain and transparent system makes identifying questionable behavior that much easier. True value will eventually outweigh quantity. Which side of the scale are you on? See you next time!
