The Importance of a Proper Warm-Up: Key Tips and Benefits
39
The importance of a good warm-up is explained here in the simplest, most comprehensible way possible.
The warm-up is often overlooked by most exercisers, due to lack of time or lack of understanding of its benefits. One of the main consequences of not doing so is injury.
An optimal warm-up should last between 10 and 15 minutes, enabling you to perform better during your session and limit the risk of injury.
- Start with 3 to 7 minutes of cardio on a machine to increase body heat and challenge all muscles and joints.
- Perform a few poly-articular movements (with a stick, for example) involving the joints that will be called upon during the session's exercises to lubricate them.
- Massage the muscles to be exercised and the surrounding muscles to unlock and gain amplitude of movement.
- Gradually increase your load on your first exercise up to the workload to specifically warm up the muscles involved and create the right nerve connections.
