Bulb Mentorship: The Challenge of Convincing Writers to Join with the 2500 Token Requirement
I joined Bulb late, but fortunately, just before the 2500 bulb token gate was introduced. My initial experience was smooth and seamless, which made it easier for me to get interested and grow within the community. About a month after joining, I participated in a discussion on the Bulb Discord server for a competition. Although I didn't win, it was a valuable experience because we deliberated on the new 2500 bulb gate policy. Initially, I thought this new addition would only impact new members, but to my surprise, it was implemented across the board. Thankfully, I had accumulated around 8,000 bulbs by then, so it was easy for me to pay and continue enjoying the Bulb experience.
This new initiative aimed to eliminate spammers and enhance the platform's value. It succeeded as many spammers exited the platform, not seeing the need to invest 2500 bulb tokens in an environment where they only came to harvest, not plant.
From another perspective, passionate new writers might be willing to invest money to buy bulb tokens immediately upon joining to quickly unleash their full potential. However, not everyone wants to start their crypto journey with a payment. Many prefer to do the groundwork, earning tokens through the platform's features to buy the rights to enjoy Bulb fully.
This is where the real challenge begins.
Older members reading this post have likely faced this question after referring a new member: "Why can't I post and comment?" As mentors, they must either sacrifice by sending the 2500 tokens and a minimum of 0.002 Solana to get them started or enter into a "lecturer mode" to explain the roadmap and the patience required. New members often need to react and share posts for about two months to earn the necessary 2500 bulb tokens. They will still require an older member to sacrifice a few Solana for them to continue their journey on Bulb.
Another significant burden is the day-to-day explanation of how to navigate Bulb’s interface. Although the interface is intuitive and easy to understand for seasoned users, new members—especially those who are lazy to read the FAQs—often need help. This requires older members to sacrifice their time to explain the navigation process. Personally, I have received daily calls from a friend I advised to join Bulb, explaining various aspects of the platform. Thankfully, after two to three weeks of persistent guidance, he is now fully onboard and enjoying the Bulb journey.
In addition to providing technical and procedural guidance, older members should also advise new members to join the Discord platform. The Discord server is a vital resource for staying updated and engaging with the community. When I started my Bulb journey, a friend helped onboard me onto the Bulb Discord server and showed me how to navigate channels like Article Shill, General, Bulb Token, Competitions, and more. This support was instrumental in my understanding and enjoyment of the Bulb experience.

In conclusion, while the 2500 bulb token gate has improved the platform by filtering out spammers and enhancing the overall quality of interaction, it has also placed a burden on older members who mentor new users. These mentors sacrifice their time and resources to help new members understand and thrive on Bulb. Despite the challenges, the mentorship and community support foster a stronger, more dedicated user base that contributes to the platform's long-term success. Encouraging new members to join the Discord community is a critical part of this mentorship, providing them with additional resources and support to fully integrate into the Bulb ecosystem.
