Ethereum Developers Plan Final Testnet Upgrades for Dencun Launch
Ethereum developers are setting a timeline for the final testnet upgrades before the highly anticipated Dencun upgrade
Dencun is a major upgrade or "hard fork" planned for the Ethereum blockchain, which will enable "proto-danksharding," a technical feature that will decrease the cost of transactions on layer 2s, as well as enable cheaper data available on the blockchain.
The final testnet upgrades will take place on the Sepolia and Holesky test networks. The upgrade on Sepolia is scheduled to take place on January 30 at 22:51 UTC, and at epoch 132608. The upgrade on Holesky is scheduled to take place on February 7 at 11:34 UTC, at epoch 950272.
If all goes according to plan, the final test for Dencun will occur on Holesky on February 7. After that, developers will ink in a date for Dencun to hit Ethereum's main network, now targeted for end of February or early March.
According to Tim Beiko, the protocol support lead at the Ethereum Foundation, "If running a node on either network, now's the time to update it."
The Dencun upgrade is a significant milestone for the Ethereum network, as it will enable cheaper and faster transactions. The upgrade is expected to improve the overall scalability and usability of the network.
Dencun will be triggered on Holesky on February 7. This is an exciting development for the Ethereum network, as it will enable cheaper and faster transactions.
