Tips on how to kick off your self discovery journey
Explore your passions
Passions contribute to the richness and meaning of life by giving it purpose. Perhaps your desire to help others led you to the field of medicine, but your current position in medical billing does not satisfy your desire to provide compassionate care. Living your passion may entail identifying the job you truly desire and researching the steps required for a career change. Perhaps it's looking into ways to volunteer your skills as a street medic.
Remember that your passions do not always have to be complex or related to your professional interests. Consider what you do in your spare time on a daily basis. What excites you and makes you happy?
Evaluate your skills
Most people have a particular knack for something or other — crafting, home improvement, cooking, or any number of other skills. Consider taking some time to consider your unique abilities and how you might use them as part of the self-discovery process. Perhaps your friends always ask you to plan their parties, or perhaps your neighbors frequently ask you for gardening advice. Why not put these skills into practice if you can see yourself developing them? Putting your skills to use sharpens them, which can boost your confidence. Greater self-confidence, in turn, can encourage you to continue exploring these talents, as well as any others you may have overlooked previously.
Learn something new
Learning works best when it is viewed as an ongoing process. Take the time to research something you've always wanted to learn more about. Books, manuals, and online tools can teach you a lot, especially if you want to improve your technical skills or learn about historical or scientific concepts. Apps can help you learn anything from meditation to foreign languages, so if you have an interest, look it up — chances are there's an app or a free website dedicated to it. In the end, whether you choose to take a class, learn from a community member, or teach yourself a new skill, broadening your knowledge is always a good idea.
