The Crypto Wallet of Axie Infinity Boss Hacked, 3,200 ETH Lost!

Two crypto wallet addresses owned by one of the founders of Axie Infinity, Jeff Zirlin, were hacked.

Zirlin has lost at least 3,248 Ether worth around US$9.7 million. The hacking incident involving Zirlin was reported by blockchain researcher Peckshield on X account (23/2).


PeckShield reported that 3,248 ETH in Zirlin's wallet had been stolen. Initially, this was suspected to be a hacking incident involving the Ronin bridge. However, Aleksander Larsen, one of the founders of the Ronin Network, stated that the Ronin bridge has the highest security, thus he suspected a wallet hacking. Larsen's suspicion was confirmed by Zirlin on X account.

"It's a tough morning for me. Two of my addresses have been breached," he said.
He emphasized that the crypto wallet hacking only occurred on his personal accounts and did not impact the Ronin chain operations or Sky Mavis activities, the company behind Axie Infinity.

Although no specific details were shared about the events leading to the hacking, Zirlin's message indicated that the private keys of both wallets were indeed compromised, resulting in unauthorized access to his personal crypto wallet.

The stolen ETH has been transferred to the Tornado Cash mixer, apparently, the hacker wants to obscure their transactions by using the mixer to make tracking difficult.

The hacking incident involving Zirlin adds to the list of hacks that have occurred in the Axie Infinity environment. Previously, in March 2023, Ronin, the sidechain hosting the Sky Mavis blockchain game Axie Infinity, was exploited by US$625 million.

The theft was apparently carried out by the Lazarus Group backed by North Korea. They had gained unauthorized access through email-based phishing attacks to carry out their actions.
