I’ve always been a huge gamer. I remember spending endless hours playing games like Zelda or Starcraft as a kid. However, I've always preferred computer gaming over console systems. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good Xbox or PlayStation game, but playing on a computer just feels right to me. I know not everyone has access to a gaming PC, which is why browser-based blockchain games have caught my attention. These games allow anyone with a computer or smartphone to play, earn, and enjoy decentralized gaming.

Games like Decentraland have shown the huge potential of blockchain technology. In Decentraland, you can either download the game client to your computer or play directly in your browser, making it accessible to almost anyone.

Recently, I discovered a game that I believe is going to be huge. This game is called Pixels. Pixels is a simple yet complex blockchain game that is both free and fun to play. Keep reading to find out why I think this game is going to be the next big thing.

What is Pixels?

Pixels was created in 2020 by Luke Barwikowski, who truly crafted something amazing. Pixels is a simple pixel game where players from all around the world can join in and play together. Though it might appear to be just a straightforward and simple pixel game, Pixels is actually quite complex and takes some time to fully understand. Don’t let that scare you away though. I believe that any good game needs a captivating story and a sense of adventure, and Pixels has just that. You’ll need to learn how everything works and explore the world to advance. The deeper you dive into the game, the more you can earn. The creators emphasize the idea of “learn to earn,” meaning your rewards grow as you progress and gain a better understanding of the game’s mechanics.

Pixels uses a blockchain called Ronin, which is specially designed with gaming in mind. Ronin is a high-performance blockchain that was developed by Sky Mavis, the creators of Axie Infinity. Its primary focus is to offer a easy and efficient gaming experience by reducing transaction fees and increasing the speed of transactions. This makes it perfect for games like Pixels, where multiple players are interacting and trading in real-time.

By using the Ronin blockchain, Pixels ensures that players can enjoy a smooth gaming experience without the usual hiccups associated with other blockchains. For instance, in Pixels, when players earn rewards or trade items, these transactions are processed quickly and cost-effectively, thanks to Ronin. This not only enhances the gameplay but also ensures that players can maximize their earnings without worrying about high fees or slow transaction times.

Ronin’s integration into Pixels allows for a more dynamic and rewarding gaming experience, making every interaction within the game more efficient and enjoyable.

How Does Pixels Work?

As I said earlier, Pixels might look like a simple pixel type game, but it is far from simple. If you are trying to join this game to earn some quick Cryptocurrency, then you might be disappointed. This game takes some time and patience. Now I am going to do my best to walk you through the process of starting the game but to be honest this is a game you are going to have to explore and enjoy. It has an open world where you can play with tons of other players.

To play Pixels you are going to need a Ronin wallet. After you have installed and created a wallet you will need to fund your wallet with a small amount of Ronin (RON). You can find Ronin on multiple different exchanges and right now Coinbase is doing a earn challenge that teaches you all about Ronin and Pixels. You can even earn some free Axie NFTs. If you have a Coinbase wallet I suggest going to the earn section and looking for the Ronin earn activity. You can earn free RON, NFTs, and a bunch more.

After you have created and funded your wallet you will want to go to pixels.xyz. This is where you will start your pixels journey. Now I have noticed when playing this game, it is not all about earning. It is about community, building, creating, and learning. Now I want to give credit where credit due and majority of what I learned when I first started came from two talented creaters, Elijah MT8 and Player_w3. Elijah MT8 created a video called “The Ultimate Pixels Beginner Guide”. Click the link if you want to check it out. He did a great job at explaining how to get started and how the game works.

But to give you an idea of how the beginning of the game starts I will explain it a little. When you first start you will start on a small piece of land where you will need to learn how everything works. You will be given free supplies to get you started and you will have to go through a tutorial type process. I suggest taking your time and really getting into it. Something about this game takes me back to my roots of gaming while also including new technology. It is a pretty addictive game when you start getting into it. There is so much to learn and remember it can be kind of overwhelming.

Key Things When Play Pixels

When playing Pixels there are some things you are going to have to keep in mind. You do not earn just from playing this game. You need to craft, explore, and exchange. So do not expect to jump right in and start earning Pixels. Take your time to learn the game and grow your character. The farther you get in the game the more you will be able to earn.

First thing first is that you have a limited amount of energy you can use. Everything in the game takes energy. Walking, growing, crafting, and pretty much anything else you can think of uses energy. There is an area in the game called “Sauna & Bath House” where you can replenish a portion of your energy every day and your energy slowly grows back as long as you are not moving. Another way to get more energy is by upgrading to VIP. We will go over VIP later in this article though because there is much more to it than just extra energy.

The second thing you need to know is that Pixels uses a reputation system that allows you to earn more from the game as you move forward in the game and complete certain tasks. You can bypass this using two different ways. One way is connecting to your social media accounts. The more you show the platform you are who you say you are the higher your reputation score goes up. You will need to click the dashboard button and then scroll down to Social on the left-hand side. Here you can connect your Twitter (X) account, your phone number, and your email. By doing this you will be able to buy and sell items in the market right away. If you do not do this then you will need to wait until you build your character up and finish enough tasks to earn your reputation. Another way to do this is to pay for VIP. If you end up getting VIP, you will automatically start off with 1,500 reputation. We will go over VIP a little more later in this article.

Everything in the game costs something. The game uses two different currencies. One is a in game currency which is coins. The other is the $PIXEL token. There is no way to sell your in-game coins inside of the game but if you go to a website called pixels.tips you can sell 1,000,000 coins for $8.50. If you are constantly creating and advancing in the game, then 1,000,000 coins will not be hard to come by. What I am more focused on though is saving my coins. The reason I save my coins is because there is a place in the game that allows you to trade certain goods for $PIXEL token. I have a good feeling this game is going to be around for the long term and just keep growing. The number of users is already at an astounding 5 million +! That has to tell you something.

Do not worry, I am going to make a short video about this game which will explain how the mechanics of the game work and how exactly you earn. Take this article as a honest opinion about the game. No one is paying me to write this, and I have no special interest in the platform other than loving the hell out of the game. I think this game is awesome and brings gaming back to its roots while also using state of the art technology to keep things interesting.

The last thing I want to go over is that this game is not just a play to earn game. It is a game that allows you to talk to everyone around you, trade with other players, and build up your Pixel empire. What I thought was pretty cool about the game is that there are 5,000 Pixel land NFTs. The price of these NFTs go anywhere from 1.295 ETH all the way up to 75 ETH. Which is pretty mind blowing. If you do get a chance to own one of these NFTs (I am hoping one day I will be able to afford one) you earn from people using your land to create items. It is pretty awesome to be honest. We will go over Pixel NFTs later in this article. Right now I want to focus on what you get as a new player. When you first start you will be given some free Popberry seeds, a small piece of land to call your own called a speck. This is your own small piece of land you can slowly build onto. People can use your land to build items if they come across it. Now building on these is not easy and takes some time getting used to the game. I went over this in more detail in my video at the beginning of this article.

In the next section I want to go over Pixel VIP. What it is, if it is worth the PIXEL, and why I think it is a must have if you are a daily user.

What is VIP and is it worth it?

What makes Pixels a awesome game is that it is free to play and free to earn, but every good game needs to have a membership that gives you a little boost in earnings and gets you a little ahead of the game. The price of Pixel VIP depends on how long you want it for. The longer you pay for the cheaper the price. For three months it is 71 PIXEL, five months is 122 PIXEL, and twelve months is 203 Pixels. The longer you buy the cheaper the month’s price. You can get some pretty good perks when signing up to VIP as well.

Now to be honest I have only been playing pixels for a couple months and I just recently paid for the VIP membership for three months. So, I am not 100% sure if it is worth the money. I ended up paying 88 $PIXEL when I signed up so it seems the price fluctuates depending on the token price, so it stays consistent. What I can tell you though is that I only signed up for VIP about a week ago and I have already earned around 13 $PIXEL. At the time of writing this that is only around $6.50. As I mentioned before this is not a game you are going to immediately start earning a ton of money from. You need to take some time to get to know the game and start creating and upgrading your character. What I can tell you is that the more I play the game the more I am earning. I started off not earning much but as I learn how to create more things and remember where everything is the more PIXEL I am getting. This game takes patience and a key understanding of how the game works.

In the next section I am going to go over how exactly you earn in the game. To get a better understanding of this game please check out my video at the beginning of this article or click here.

How exactly do you earn?

There are multiple different ways to earn from Pixels. Some are easier than others and some are free, and some take some investment.

Own farmland NFT – If you can find a way to get your hands on one of the Pixel farmland NFTs then you can earn passive income from people using your land. At least that is what I get from it. I am not totally sure how it all works.

Create and Trade for Pixel – You can start creating and storing your creations and trade it at “The Bucks Galore” which is the area you will be earning your PIXEL and buying and selling your gear you accumulate.

Create and Trade for Coins – Now I have not done this yet nor do I plan on doing it because I love the game but if you are trying to earn the most from your game then you can focus on creating and selling your creations for Coins and then using the pixels.tips website to trade your coins for cash. Before you decide to try this, I suggest doing some research because I have never used this method before.

Right now, Pixels is in chapter one of the game. Real soon (June 17/18) chapter two is to be released and there are some big updates happening. I am going to go over upcoming updates later in this article. In the next section I am going to go over Pixel NFTs. What is cool about Pixels is not only can you own a piece of the game by owning farmland, but you can also use certain NFTs you own from different projects as your character avatar! In the next section I am going to go over Farmland NFTs and what other NFT projects can be used as your avatar.

Pixel & NFTs

To be honest Pixel NFTs are not cheap and if you are like me and earning small amounts every day then you are probably not going to be able to afford the steep price of $4,000+. I hope one day I will be able to own one but at this moment in time it is a distant dream. I personally would invest the money if I had it because I think Pixels is an awesome game that is unlike any other blockchain game available.

Now the majority of us will not be able to afford one of the farmlands NFTs right now but what is cool is that PIXELS allows the use of other NFT projects as your avatar. So, if you have a certain NFT such as Bored Ape Yacht Club, Timeless, Lazy Lions, Glizzy Gang, Grillz Gang, Scholarz, Average Punks, and many more.

Sorry the above picture is a little pixelated...no pun intended 🤣 It was hard to fit all of the NFT projects that can be used. If you want to check out the full list click here. I am hoping to one day get a XTREME PIXELS NFT to use as my avatar. They are fairly cheap and look pretty cool. I am going to try to go for one of those next. Right now, I am using jihoz – Axie Infinity. He is cool but I want my guy to stand out a little more. I recently bought a Augminted Labs Scientists just so I can use it for this game. As you can see in the picture above there are tons of NFT projects that Pixels allow you to use. Some are extremely expensive while others are a little more affordable. I think it is pretty crazy they use different NFT projects as players avatars. This is a cool way to have your NFTs come to life in a game. The future of blockchain and Cryptocurrency is truly remarkable, and I can only imagine what it will look like when my kids are my age.

The future of Pixels

The future of Pixels looks bright to me. This is the only reason I decided to write about this game. Not only can you earn from it, but you can use your NFTs as characters, chat with other players in the game, and the map is huge. I am not saying go out and invest your hard-earned money into this game or into RONIN. What I am trying to say is give this game a try. It has huge potential and I think this is just the beginning for this one-of-a-kind game.

Pixels seems to be going by a chapter type system. The game is on chapter one right now and from what I have been reading it seems chapter 2 is right around the corner. There are going to be huge updates and upgrades to the whole game. Here is a rough idea of what chapter 2 will bring. I plan on doing a follow up article and video once chapter 2 is released though so people can see first-hand how this game is evolving and growing.

Chapter 2 brings significant updates, including changes in resource generation, crafting, and new features like resource tiering, Guilds, and Dungeons.
Resource Collection

  • Resources will now be generated based on land, with a global daily cap, aligning with the Guilds system.

Crafting Enhancements

  • Personal crafting stations are now single-user.
  • Multi-crafting and queuing multiple recipes will be possible, with upgrades via skills or $PIXEL.

Resource & Tool Tiering

  • Resources and recipes follow a 5-tier model, each with specific purposes.
  • Tool progression similar to RPGs, with tools degrading over time.

Land Progression

  • New free-to-play lands for non-landowners to progress through lower-tier resources and upgrade their specks.
  • NFT Lands offer access to top-tier resources.

I do not know what the future holds for this game or any game like this. Governments can decide to crack down on Crypto and all the time and effort we put into these games and projects will be wasted, but I have a strong feeling that is not the case. Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology is growing fast and one day I see this technology being used in pretty much anything you can think of. Blockchain is here to stay and if you think otherwise then just wait and see. The world is changing and everything is becoming tokenized. Who knows, maybe we will be next lol just kidding….or am I.

Chapter 2 is supposed to be released around June 17th or 18th so keep an eye out and follow Pixels on X to catch all of the news and updates. You can also follow the creator of Pixels Luke Barwikowski. When chapter 2 is released, I will be posting a update video about how it works and what has changed.

Final Thoughts

The future is blockchain. I know people are scared and confused when things change. I know a good number of people do not even realize what is happening because they are caught up in their own things at home and work. This is bigger than you, bigger than me, and bigger than the all mighty dollar. There is no better time than now to learn about this technology. What is cool is that learning about this technology can be easy and rewarding. With games like Pixels, Decentraland, Chainers, and many more. With wallets like Coinbase that actually pay you to learn about this technology there is no reason why you shouldn’t just sit down one night and start researching. Anyone who is reading this that does not really know or understand Crypto I suggest downloading the Coinbase app. Coinbase has an amazing earning section that pays you Cryptocurrency just to learn about different projects, how to stake, and much more. I just recently earned over $50 in RONIN just by answering some questions and learning how to stake the token. It is truly mind blowing why everyone is not doing this. I keep seeing people complain about being broke or prices being to high. Cryptocurrency is a way to break those chains and start making some real money.

I hope everyone enjoyed this article. I had a whole thing planned out where I will try to post at least once a week but man these take some time. Between researching, recording, creating pictures, and writing I am low on time. So, I plan on just writing these as much as possible. I'm not sure how often I will be able to do it, but I will always be working on something. Just know these are genuine articles and I do my best to share only projects I actually enjoy using and use daily.

None of this is financial advice and I will never ask you to invest any type of money. The only thing I want you to invest is your time and energy in learning about this technology. I have a strong feeling that learning about blockchain will be a game changer in the coming years.
