Using AI to write your articles is not great
So today my post is about writing articles using AI. I know, this could be a controversial subject but I feel it needs to be said. I have read some articles here on Bulb that are completely AI generated. I usually stop reading it and move on to something else.
There are then the articles that are almost copy pasted, but have been ran through an AI program to slightly re-spin/ change the wording. To me this is the same as the copy paste articles a lot of us worked hard to get rid of here on Bulb. It is technically and morally a copyright infringement. I know there are no real hard and fast rule here about using AI on Bulb but once people take advantage of it too much, which no doubt will be the case, eventually there will be rules.
HOW DO I KNOW
Well one does not give away all of their knowledge, but I am sure most here know, especially the Bulbarians or the people that actually do read articles.
Ok, so before you start thinking that I am totally against AI, I am not and I am aware that it does have its uses and I have used AI to help with tricky emails at times so I am aware there can be some advantages.
1. Speed
AI can significantly reduce the time it takes you to write articles.
2. Consistency
AI can maintain a consistent tone and style across all articles even if it is quite dull.
3. Data-Driven Insights
AI can analyze large amounts of data to provide insights that can be incorporated into articles.
4. Idea Generation
AI can assist in brainstorming and generating new ideas.
While AI may offer advantages in writing articles, there are also potential drawbacks.
1. Lack of Authenticity
AI generated content can lack the authenticity that comes from us humans and our experiences. Articles written by AI sound generic, missing the personal touch that we, as human writers bring to our work.
2. Quality and Accuracy Issues
AI can produce content that is factually incorrect or of poor quality. I remember an AI generated post about Bulb and it had classed Bulb as a finance protocol!
3. Plagiarism Concerns
Using AI to write articles raises ethical questions about authorship and originality.
4. Loss Human Touch
AI lacks the ability to convey emotions and human experiences authentically. We humans can write comments or articles that resonate on a more emotional level.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
I understand English is not everybody's first language, but I am more inclined to read an article by someone who, when it is obvious English is not their first language, than I am someone who has just used AI to generate an article. They have tried and I have more respect for a writer who tries than one who technically cheats.
I myself may not be the best writer, but it is something I enjoy and I try and do my best. Over time, I think my articles have improved, so I will keep trying to improve without using AI to write articles for me.
COMMENTS USING AI
There are some that even use AI to generate comments, you know who you are! I am not sure if I find this worse than using AI to write articles, to me it means you have not read the article at all and some AI comments have got it wrong and it makes no sense at all or it just slightly re-words part of the article, this I find quite frustrating.
MEH
I have decided that instead of ignoring AI articles and comments, I will use the meh button. This is not something I usually do, on this site or others. If I don't like an article then I just move on but as the AI articles are becoming more prevelent here, something needs to be done. I do not know if this will make a difference, after all, I am just one person and it may not make a difference at all, but hey....You never know. So from now on, if you get a MEH from me, it is because your article or comment is AI generated.
Perhaps if a lot of us did this it would make the people that take advantage of the AI usage think again and write a real article or am I being a bit naive here?
TO CONCLUDE
Well I think my views on using AI to write articles here on Bulb is quite clear. I am not a fan and I would like to hope that there are more stringent rules eventually on Bulb preventing AI generated articles. What are your thoughts on this? I know that some people may use the AI tools to improve their work, but there will always be the ones that take advantage and go too far and use AI to 'write' an article day after day, much like the spammers we have worked so hard to clean the site of.
As always, thank you for reading and feel free to comment.
