Essien picks form, to run for NFF President
Otuekong Nse Essien, owner of Nigeria National League team FC One Rocket, has expressed interest in running for one of the coveted seats in the Nigeria Football Federation ahead of the September 30 NFF elections for 2022.
The Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly member, who is running to represent the South-South in the next administration, paid N250,000 on Monday in Abuja for the electoral form for candidates for the board membership seat.
Essien, who founded the CARABANA Football Academy in Uyo, said he was motivated by his ambition for the growth of sports and thinks the South-South requires competent representation on the NFF's board.
"In terms of sports, both on and off the field, the South-South has a lot to offer. Akwa Ibom State, where I live, and the South-South region in general are loaded with sporting potential that should be appropriately promoted. In order to provide my team with greater options for exposure and efficient participation, I'm aiming to join the board, Essien added.
"I have personally been in the forefront of developing football talent in Akwa Ibom through my professional club and academy, which coincidentally produced the player that stood out for the Flying Eagles at the most recent WAFU competition. I am also a man with ideas and connections at the national, continental, and international levels that, if used, may improve the situation in our area.
