The Music That Whispers Hope
Whenever I'm enveloped by sadness, pain, hopelessness, and the world around me seems relentlessly loud, when even my inner tranquility feels threatened, and it seems nothing can alleviate my swirling negativity, I choose to delicately immerse myself in certain songs. These are like a soothing balm for my weary soul, momentarily calming my restless mind and heart.
There are moments when, even in my darkest hours, I gravitate towards melancholic melodies rather than cheerful tunes. It seems as though they resonate with my heart's symphony, becoming a mirror to my emotions. The lyrics reverberate through me, as if understanding and translating every beat of my heart.
A few of these magical melodies are as follows:
Fighter – Fearless Soul
I’m dreaming, reaching for something better
I’m travelling, finding a new home where the sun shines brighter
I’m crying, grieving, but I won’t be bitter
I’m ready, letting go of what was, I’m getting stronger
I’m getting stronger
I am a fighter
I am the writer of my whole new story
I can only go higher
I’ll never quit, I won’t give in, won’t stop till I’m winning
That’s my most favorite part. This song serves as an inspiration to me, a reminder that no matter how challenging life becomes or what obstacles I encounter, I can and must overcome them to strive towards attaining my goals.
Hail Mary, Gentle Woman – Sunday 7pm Choir
Gentle woman, quiet light,
Morning star, so strong and bright,
Gentle mother, peaceful dove,
Teach us wisdom, teach us love.
You were chosen by the Father,
You were chosen for the Son,
You were chosen from all women,
And for woman, shining one.
This is a beautiful and sacred piece that provides a sense of peace and comfort to me. Whenever I listen to this song, it feels as though the Holy Mother is embracing me and gently stroking my back, as if reassuring me that everything will be alright and She will always be by my side.
I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor
Go on and go, walk out the door
Turn around now
You're not welcome anymore
You're the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
Thinkin' I'd crumble
Did you think I'd lay down and die?
No, not I, I will survive
Long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive
I've got my life to live, and all my love to give
And I will survive
I, I will survive
The lyrics of this classic anthem is so beautiful, they make me sway as it's a lively tune. The song's message encourages one to find personal strength as a means to overcoming life's difficulties and to learn to release the things that cause pain and offer no benefit.
The Scientist – Coldplay
Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start
The melancholic melody of this song seems to beckon me to introspect, instilling in my mind that nothing in life comes easy, that I must strive for self-improvement because there will come a moment when I'll feel solitary in life. And when such time arrives, I must learn to sustain myself independently. To rebound from failure is essentially a part of life.
Hallelujah – by Leonard Cohen
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
I appreciate this version of the song, it feels as though the melody is gently enveloping me, reaching the depths of my emotions. While I was listening to this composition, it brought back memories of the times when I felt solitude, particularly during periods of depression in my life. During those moments, I genuinely felt the grace of God assisting me to pull through that stage of my life.
Let It Be – The Beatles
When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Just the initial lyrics of this song will motivate you to listen and finish this tune. The song offers a soothing reminder to release anxieties and put your trust in a higher power.
The Sound of Silence – Simon & Garfunkel
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
For someone like me, who prefers solitude over socializing with others, this song serves as a revelation that happiness can be found even in solitude. It emphasizes the idea that happiness should not depend on others. It suggests that I, personally, should learn to create my own reasons for happiness.
Everybody Hurts - R.E.M.
Don't let yourself go
'Cause everybody cries
Everybody hurts sometimes
This song serves as a soothing reassurance that though all of us may face incessant suffering and problems, it's crucial to recall that we're not alone and we're not the only ones dealing with hardship. There are others that endure much harsher trials than our present struggles. Additionally, this song also reminds us that there's always hope for a brighter tomorrow.
Amazing Grace – John Newton
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see
This hymn conveys to me that whenever I am alone, I can always rely on God. He is constantly available to support me. Regardless of my transgressions, His forgiveness is unending, and I am perpetually salvaged by His remarkable grace.
You Raise Me Up – Josh Groban
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary
When troubles come and my heart burdened be
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence
Until You come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
This song serves as a compelling reminder that we are never alone in our challenges. Often, we might feel alone and burdened as we forget that there is a divine presence, God, who is always there for us. Further, He often uses instruments to provide us assistance.
Grace – Laura Story
I ask you: "How many times will you pick me up
When I keep on letting you down?"
And each time I will fall short of your glory
How far will forgiveness abound?
And you answer: "My child, I love you
And as long as you're seeking my face
You'll walk in the power of my daily sufficient grace"
That’s my most favorite part of this song about God's unconditional love and mercy. It emphasizes how we frequently take credit for our achievements, whereas in reality it is God who truly works through us. The song serves as a reminder that we are never too distant for God's grace to touch us.
These songs, and countless others like them, remind us that even in the darkest of times, hope can be found. They offer solace, understanding, and a sense of connection that transcends words. So, the next time you find yourself lost in a sea of negativity, just like me, remember the power of music to whisper hope into your soul.
You've come this far. May the divine grace be upon you. ♥
