The second country to adopt the time change is Great Britain, followed by the rest of the European countries. In Bulgaria, summer and winter time were introduced on April 1, 1979
The purpose of the invention, first proposed by Benjamin Franklin, is to save light in winter and extend daylight hours in summer. Nowadays, however, the economic arguments in favor of the change are increasingly "exhaling". The member states of the European Union, including Bulgaria, will certainly change the time in 2025. The reason is that discussions around the abolition of the time change were frozen due to the coronavirus pandemic. They are yet to be renewed in the European Commission. In theory, different countries have the right to take a different approach, but Brussels' goal is for compromise to prevail within the EU. However, a number of countries such as Russia, Turkey, China, Egypt and others do not change the time at all.
