Facebook is one of the most popular social media throughout the world. an American company "Facebook Inc." owned this site. This social media is a relevant way to connect with friends, and relatives virtually.
2003 November; The Origin
Mark Zuckerberg was a high school student when he created a website called "Facemash". The website allowed users to compare two female students side by side. So that the users can decide who was more attractive. This website attracted 450 visitors. Later, he forwarded this site to several campus group list servers. Due to the violation of copyright, and individual privacy, Harvard Administration shut down this site and expelled Mark Zuckerberg. The administration charged him with a branch of security, violating copyrights, and individual privacy. The Harvard administration dropped the charges against him.
He expanded this initiation to the field of his study by creating social studies tool ahead of an art history final exam. Mark Zuckerberg uploaded pictures related to the subject and added a new feature with a corresponding comment section. He had shared the site with his friend to share notes with his friends. An unknown buyer bought this site in 2010, October.
With inspiration from the editorial in the "Crimson", Mark Zuckerberg started to code for a new website called "Facebook ". Mark Zuckerberg and a Harvard student, Eduardo Saverin, each invested $1,000 in the site. Mark Zuckerberg launched the website with the name "Facebook". Its main motive was to connect the people around the university. Initially, He restricted the membership to the students of Harvard University. Facebook earned more popularity. Within a month of the lunch at Harvard, more than half of the population was registered on the service.
Expansion of Facebook
The expansion of Facebook started in March 2004 at Stanford, Columbia, and Yale. The expansion continued, So, it gradually reached almost all universities in the United States and Canada. After purchasing the domain name "facebook.com", the company dropped 'The' from its name in August 2005. Facebook launched the high school version in the same year. Mark Zuckerberg introduced the new feature of tagging. Since the user liked the new feature, it again added a new feature called newsfeed in September 2006. Because of its popularity, Mark Zuckerberg and his Facebook team accessed Facebook to everyone aged 13 and older with a valid email address in the same year.
Facebook went to the mobile application in January 2007. Its international headquarters is set up in Dublin, Ireland. The Facebook team introduced the like button in February 2009. In 2010, the company invited users to become beta testers after passing a question-and-answer-based selection process. As of February 2011, it had become the most prominent online photo host expecting to have more than 100 billion photos by the summer of 2011. In June 2011, It collaborated with Skype to add a new feature; video chat.
2012, IPO held
The company Facebook, Inc. held its initial public offering (IPO) in May 2012. This event created the biggest in Internet history, with a peak market capitalization of over $104 billion. It had 1 billion active users by October 2012. Stickers are the smallest and easiest way to share users' feelings and opinions. So, Facebook launched stickers. To make Facebook user-friendly, it added the features of peer-to-peer payments in Facebook messenger in March 2015. It also announced support for GIFs in May 2015.
The reactions emoji are the most convenient to put views and feelings towards the post. So, the Facebook team launched the Facebook reaction in February 2016. A secret and entertaining game: Secret soccer game was added to the Facebook messenger in June 2016. Also, Facebook has intended to reduce the distance between friends and relatives by announcing Facebook-Space. It is a new VR application where one can hang out with friends. This new feature was launched in Beta For Oculus in April 2017. It acquired a famous American application Tbh ( To be honest) in October 2017 as they both have common aims and objectives.

Facebook Celebrated Its 14th Anniversary on 4 February 2018. Facebook-Social media cares about the security of the users too. So, on 2017 Sep 7, after claiming the false post and link of the account, it blocked 470 fake accounts. Also, it launched a trust indicator tool to determine how a particular publication works to combat fake news, on 16 November 2017. The Facebook company opened a new office with an expectation of 800 new staff in London on December 3, 2017.
Facebook Launched a kid version of messenger for children from six years to twelve years on December 4, 2017. The parents can manage a messenger kid application from their Facebook account. So, this application reduces the fake and illegal accounts for this range of age groups. On December 19, 2017, it introduced a new tool to expand its use of facial recognition technology to prevent people from impersonating others. This tool alerts people if any friend or friend of a friend uploaded a photo of them even if the person is not tagged.
On January 11, 2018, Facebook acquired the personalized image search engine called Dreambit. Also, It acquired Boston-based biometric ID verification startup Confirm.io on January 23, 2018. This domain offers a system for verifying the authenticity of ID cards, facial recognition, and biometrics. this system helped to authenticate a government-issued ID in a secure, and convenient way. Facebook banned all cryptocurrencies promoting advertisements including bitcoin and initial coin offerings on January 30, 2018. Facebook implemented this action according to the broad policy to reduce scammers.
Case filed to Facebook
On December 9, 2020, The Federal Trade Commission sued Facebook alleging that the company is illegally maintaining its social networking monopoly. This complaint states that the act of acquisition of its up-and-coming rival social networking application specifically; Instagram and WhatsApp. This harms competition among social networking sites and leaves consumers with few choices for personal social networking. So, consumers are deprived of the benefits of competition.
