Arts&Humanities vs Technology in the 21st Century
In the modern, technology-driven technology society, studying arts and humanities is imperative
The immense technological advancements have been on the headlines in recent years. When discussing arts and humanities in the same context, technology and arts seem to be the two opposites. Is that really the case?
Rather than being two opposites, I believe that our understanding of the humanities, the way people think, interact and make decisions, should be at the frontiers of any technological change. Human intervention is absolutely essential to implement the tools of the future. Our perspective of arts and humanities should evolve accordingly to the computational ability at any given point.
Arts and Technology working together
Moreover, technology certainly opens many doors for artistic development. From music making, artificial intelligence generated masterpieces, to self-sustaining artist networks and sharing platforms, this new paradigm could carve the way for artistic guidelines. The only question that arises is how we seek to utilize the tools and platforms made possible by technological advancements.
- For example, OpenAI just launched a new paper describing the new and exciting Text-To-Pic machine learning model called DALL-E 2 (https://youtu.be/rdGVbPI42sA)
- As far as networks go, some incredible platforms have been developed in recent years to connect and promote artistic quality and interaction. Gumroad is the thriving “creator economy platform that utilizes the power of earning a payment on the go. That makes advancements in your artistic careers easier.
- NFTs propose an intent towards providing digitally-owned artistic pieces with tracked ownership and full transparency. You can also tie these pieces to exclusive events, tickets to museums, art galleries, and more.
To sum up
Arts, humanities, and technology are not each other’s counterparts. Instead, we must accompany technology with the arts to reach their total united prosperity.
