How to practice speaking English
There is no shortcut to improve oral English, only speak boldly.
I carefully observed the people around me who were learning English, they were ashamed to speak. I don't know why. Is "face" so important that you are willing to give up having an enviable skill? In the past, I practiced speaking alone. How should I say it, alone? In fact, after all, practicing alone is missing the main ingredient.
One night, I happened to be going for a walk. On the way, I met a classmate who was practicing oral English with a stranger. At that time, I thought "I want to join" them in my heart. At first, I was also a little hesitant. I don't know if I should join them; after joining, can I continue to participate every day. When I came back here after a long walk, I saw that they still hadn't ended. Finally, I went to them and said in English: "May I join you?" They were very enthusiastic. In this way, I found a language partner to practice speaking. Every time we meet, I don't really know what we should talk about, like I do when I chat with my cousin's foreign friend. Sometimes I don't know what to say. Therefore, after finishing a sentence, there was a moment of silence in the next second.
Important Points
First, the ability to define things in English.
Second, the skill of explaining in English, that is, being able to express the same meaning in different ways.
Third, the ability to describe things in English.
Fourth, the ability to use idiomatic expressions freely.
Fifth, English guessing ability, that is, the ability to guess the meaning of the other party based on the context when communicating with the other party.
Sixth, develop a good habit of bilingual switching between our mother language and English.
This is how I started speaking practice with my new language partner. We chatted about our day in spoken language, such as what we did in the morning, afternoon and evening, what classes we took, who we met, what knowledge we learned, what interesting experiences we had, and so on. Due to personality factors, everyone is destined to have a different life. Therefore, we can learn a lot from sharing with each other. Occasionally, I will make some suggestions on how to express or grammatically wrong. I can clearly feel that in these three weeks of training, we have all made great progress. However, we still need to pay attention to the tense, grammar and expression problems when chatting. When we don't know how to express it, we look it up in the dictionary, and we think about how to express the meaning with simple words. This is much more interesting than memorizing words bluntly. By practicing speaking, we build our own word databases. These words can be said to be mastered by each other.
Since each of us has a certain foundation, our practice will not always be so simple or mechanical. We are sometimes ready to share our feelings about an issue or a movie, to describe a thing or a person in spoken words.
