Graham repeatedly cited the example in his criticism of President Joe Biden for threatening to withdraw specific weaponry from Israel if the country begins a military campaign in Rafah, the southernmost city of Gaza that is home to over a million civilians seeking refuge.

Senator Lindsey Graham, a US congressman, has urged Israel to take all necessary measures to prevail in its "existential" conflict with Hamas, much as the US was "justified" in dropping nuclear weapons on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II.

In an interview with NBC News on Sunday, Senator Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, made this claim.

As the Israeli military's military operation in Gaza approaches its eighth month and has claimed the lives of over 34,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children, it is coming under increased international attention.

But Graham, an ardent Israeli booster, accused Hamas of being mostly responsible for civilian deaths and urged Israel to keep fighting until it wins hands-down, no matter the price.

Graham stated, "After Pearl Harbor, we faced destruction as a nation and chose to end the war by bombing [of] Hiroshima [and] Nagasaki with nuclear weapons. We were fighting the Germans and the Japanese." "That was the right choice to make."

"Give Israel the bombs they need to end the war," he continued. They are unable to bear defeat. Stated at meet the press

During his criticism of President Joe Biden for threatening to withhold specific weaponry from Israel if it conducts a military campaign in Rafah, the southernmost city in Gaza where over a million civilians are seeking shelter, Graham referred to the analogy several times.

Graham brought up World Fight II once more when asked why it was acceptable for President Ronald Reagan to withhold some weaponry from Israel during its fight in Lebanon in the 1980s but not acceptable for Biden to make such a threat now.

"May I say this?" he enquired. To put an end to their existential danger conflict, why was it acceptable for America to drop two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Why could we do that with impunity? I believed that to be acceptable.

He continued, So, Israel, to continue existing as a Jewish state, do whatever it takes. Do whatever is necessary.

"We have been holding back and we're in active conversations with Israel about the provision of heavy or high-payload weapons, large bombs, because of the concern that we have about the effect these weapons can have when they're used in a dense urban environment like Rafah," Blinken said about American concerns regarding the use of "high-payload" bombs.

Graham responded, "Yeah, these military officials that you're talking about are full of crap," to remarks made by U.S. military authorities that technology has changed significantly since World War II. Graham had brought up this point previously in the discussion.

Graham maintained that civilian deaths during the fighting are the fault of Hamas.

Shortly after he appeared on the show, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, "Absent a credible plan to get [civilians] out of harm's way and to support them, the president's been clear for some time that we couldn't and would not support a major military operation in Rafah." Blinken declined to draw a "red line" with Israel.

Blinken also spoke about American apprehensions regarding the use of "high-payload" bombs, stating, "We have been holding back and we're in active conversations with Israel about the provision of heavy or high-payload weapons, large bombs, because of the concern that we have about the effect that these weapons can have when they're used in a densely populated area like Rafah."
