NGO and youth council support the Almajiri Education Bill
In collaboration with nonprofit organizations in Sokoto State, the National Youth Council of Nigeria has asked President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), Senate President Ahmad Lawan, and others to swiftly pass the Almajiri Education Bill into law.
At a joint news conference held on Sunday in Sokoto, Malam Yakubu Abubakar, the NCYN Chairman for the Sokoto State Chapter, made the call.
Rep. Balarabe Kakale (PDP Sokoto) and 17 other legislators introduced and sponsored the Almajiri Education and Out of School Children Bill 2023, which was supported by Abubakar and others.
According to him, the efforts would prevent youth poverty, delinquency and destitution as well as related ills in Nigeria.
”We urge the Senate to give the bill speedy passage, Mr President to assent as soon as it gets to Presidency. We are also calling on the Federal Government to engage Nigerian youths in the implementation of the law. NYCN urges state governments especially northern states to domesticate the law in their respective states,” Abubakar said.
The organizations praised Buhari for giving his approval to the Nigeria Start Bill and the stakeholders who helped create the Start-Up Act 2022, which encourages young people and businesses.
The governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, received praise from the participants for submitting an executive law on Almajiri education to the state Assembly.
The District Head of Gagi, Alhaji Sani Umar-Jabbi, hailed the actions as opportune and in the right path in acknowledgement of the current events in the nation while speaking in a message of goodwill.
According to Umar-Jabbi, there are several reasons why children are dropping out of school, including poverty, parental negligence, a lack of family planning practices, population growth, misconceptions, insecurity, and others.
