How my copy was sent back to me.

5 mistakes to avoid as a copywriter I've made these mistakes before as well but now I know better.

One of these mistakes I'm about to share with you is what prompted my copy to be sent back to me and you don't want to make that same mistake I made..

Let's get into it

πŸ”΅ Prioritising the body of your copy over the headline: It's important to know that while the body of your copy is important, the headline is important as well and you should not overlook that because your headline is your HOOK, your headline is what gets people to decide if they are to click the "see more" or "learn more" button or they're to skip it. Dedicate more time to writing your headline.

πŸ”΅ Assuming your prospect knows: Write your copy like your prospect knows nothing about it even if they know, explain points when you should explain them. Don't assume your prospect knows it already, give examples too.People also love to be spoon fed sometimes, so just explain.

πŸ”΅ Not being able to handle objections: Handling objections in copywriting means addressing and overcoming the concerns or doubts that a potential customer may have about your product or service. You can use these tips on how to handle objections when writing copy; βœ”οΈ Provide evidence: Use social proof, testimonials, and other evidence to support your claims and build trust. βœ”οΈ Use storytelling: Storytelling techniques connect you with potential customers emotionally and help them see the benefits of your product or service. You know how important storytelling is, apply in your copy. Remember, handling objections is all about addressing customer concerns and building trust.

πŸ”΅ Focusing On features instead of benefits: Now this is my storyπŸ˜‘

The first copy I wrote was reviewed by a friend who is also a copywriter. Now that was my first copy so what was I going to expect? It was a sales copy for a skincare product. I decided to write about a skincare product because I love beautiful and glowing skin. I was so excited about writing my first copy so I did everything I could to make my copy nice😩 and enticing.

It was actually nice but here's where my problem was. I sent the copy to my friend using a PDF file but he returned it to me via WhatsApp, circling and underlining my mistakes.

I made so many mistakes but this is the major one he emphasised on, I focused on features instead of benefits. The features are important but BENEFITS OVER FEATURES because features TELL while benefits SELL.

πŸ”΅ Overlooking your CTA (Call-to-action): I cannot stress this enough. You know how important it is. How do you want your reader or audience to take action if you don't include a CTA in your copy? The same way your headline, the body of your copy and the benefits are important, so is your CTA. A CTA is what gets them to take action so always include a CTA in your copy.

I hope this helped you? If you're seeing my post for the first time and we aren't connected yet, follow me for more tips like this.
