If you aren’t a medium member, you can read with no paywall via substack

In this previous article, we talked about submission standards and some of the things we are looking for from authors as the publication grows. In this article, we’ll provide a quick walk-through on how to submit your article for publication via Radio Hackers. It’s a pretty
straightforward process however it will vary depending on if your article has already been published or is awaiting publication. Let’s get started.

We’re Looking For

Realistically, this is a pretty broad question, but if your article uses an SDR or traditional radio to transmit or receive, then chances are we’re probably going to be interested in taking a look. Radio topics of all types are cool, it doesn’t have to be purely hacking or cybersecurity-based content.

In terms of protocols or technical complexity, anything goes. That means beginners who are blogging about their learning journey are just as welcome as more experienced folks. If you’re writing a piece that’s tech-heavy though, please ensure you’ve included all relevant information for the tutorial, including links and other resources so beginners can try to follow along.

Please also ensure that your article is human-written, not compiled using generative AI, and has been proofed for grammatical correctness and punctuation errors.
While we’re flexible with content type and overall experience levels, we do request that all writers and authors adhere to the Medium Rules when producing content. We will automatically reject articles that contravene these rules.

Already Published

If your article is already published then publication submission is pretty quick. First, we’ll want to select the three dots at the top of the article as seen in the image below.
After you’ve selected this menu, we’ll look for the section that says “Add to Publication”.
If you’ve written for other publications you’ll probably already see them in the list. For this though, we’ll need to select “Radio Hackers”.
Once we’ve selected it, we’ll need to hit the tab “Add Story” and submit it to the publication.
When this is done, congratulations! You’ve just submitted your first article to the Radio Hackers publication. While your article remains published, you’ll need to wait for the Radio Hackers editors to approve your submission. Typically this will usually happen within an hour or two, but on some occasions, it may take up to 24 hours.
Once this part of the process is complete, you’ll see that you are now listed as a writer for the Radio Hackers publication. You should also be able to see your submission on the front page of the publication in the most recent tab.

Awaiting Publishing

If your article is awaiting publication, you’ll find the submission process pretty similar albeit with a few minor differences. Firstly, when you hit publish you’ll submit your article to the publication. The editors will review it and arrange for it to be published shortly after you’ve submitted it.

Our first step will be to select the same menu for published stories. You’ll see that at the top of your draft similar to what is pictured in the image below
Once we’ve selected the menu we’ll choose the “Add to Publication” tab
We’ll then choose “Radio Hackers” and then hit the “Select & Continue” tab as pictured below.
This is where the next step varies slightly. Next, Medium will ask us to finalize our draft before it is submitted. Now is the final chance to make any changes before you add it to the publishing line.
Once it’s done, we’ll simply hit submit. Next up, the editors will add it to the publication and once it’s passed it will be published. You’ll also receive an email notification when this is complete advising you that your story has been accepted.

Considerations

While submission is pretty straightforward, here are a few additional pointers to take away that will help you throughout the process.

Before you submit your article you’ll need to be added as a writer. If we’ve approached you about joining, typically this will be done by the time we’ve sent you the message about joining up. In some instances though, this step may take some additional time. If you want to know where things are at regarding this, then contact us via email and ask the question as we’re always happy to explain.

If you’re consistently writing about topics that are relevant to the publication, we’d love for you to regularly submit these articles to the publication. While one-off submissions will continue to be welcome, we’re also looking for regular writers to help keep the publication filled with relevant training material. If you think this is you, then please reach out to the editors with some of your upcoming article topics so that we can add them to our monthly newsletter and socials for promotional purposes.

If you aren’t sure if your article meets the submission standards OR you’d like some additional help editing it then again please contact us and request some further support from the editors.

We’re happy to take writers of all skill levels and are also happy to provide additional support to new writers or those who feel that they may require some assistance or further development.

You’ll also find that Medium supplies a large number of resources to assist with this as well. This includes plenty of resources around submissions, how to write a boost-worthy article and the best way to structure your article. So, it might be worth taking a look at these along the way too.

Please also be aware that should you submit an article to the publication, we may make minor corrections and changes before publication should these be required.

If you have any questions, reach out in the comments or send an email directly.

Lastly, A Big Thank You… To You!

If you’ve already submitted articles to the publication then we’d like to thank you for taking the time to notate and share your experiences so that others can learn from them.
If you aren't yet published but are currently considering submitting your work to Radio Hackers then again, we thank you in advance for sharing your experiences and perspective with the community.

We think that this sense of community and shared experiences is one of the best things about Medium. What do you think?

Medium has recently made some algorithm changes to improve the discoverability of articles like this one. These changes are designed to ensure that high-quality content reaches a wider audience, and your engagement plays a crucial role in making that happen.

If you found this article insightful, informative, or entertaining, we kindly encourage you to show your support. Clapping for this article not only lets the author know that their work is appreciated but also helps boost its visibility to others who might benefit from it.
