What exactly is Laika?

Let us delve deeper into their vision for LAIKA, the essential step in mainstreaming DRC20 and energizing the on-chain $DOGE ecosystem. Apart from network-specific issues, with the DRC20 standard, a new asset class has emerged, capturing more and more interest. Yet, leveraging these assets on DOGE is severely limited due to the network's non-programmable nature, hindering DRC20 assets' mainstream adoption. It's disheartening to confine their potential to mere buying and selling useless tokens when they could do much more! In comparison to BRC20, where numerous components have been developed by a vibrant developer community, DRC20 assets are lagging, with applications struggling to emerge.

They believe that an L2 solution is highly recommended to address these challenges. Indeed, LAIKA will allow for transactions and smart contracts to be executed through DOGE. This enables smarter, faster, secure, and efficient transactions than possible on DOGE, while still offering L1's security benefits.

Crucially, their goal is not merely to replicate what could be done on other existing L2s with wrapped DRC20 assets but to truly leverage DRC20 assets. Thus, their vision, along with that of the Laika Foundation, is committed to this direction. The chain's structure is designed to keep users anchored in DOGE's native assets with an important interoperability: compatible with DOGE wallets, ensuring constant communication from DOGE to Laika (when an asset is issued on DOGE) and from Laika to DOGE (when an asset is issued on Laika).

LAIKA will be EVM compatible, so DRC20 become an easy-to-dev space, attracting more projects and vitality. Thus, they are combining the best of the worlds : programmability and immutability! Owing to Dogecoin's limitations, Laika will adopt a hybrid of Layer2 technologies like Plasma and Rollups (ZK and Optimistic), facilitating LAIKA transaction execution in as low as 3 seconds and verification on Dogecoin within a minute. This ensures transactions are safe and secure swiftly, making the network user-friendly and seamlessly integrable.

With the goal to bolster DOGE, Dogecoin will remain the primary currency for fees and validator rewards on the network. Anticipating lower fees, additional incentives for validators will include Laika Tokens, awarded based on transaction fees in a block, as determined through consensus and voting. While Dogecoin is crucial for L2 activities, Laika tokens will confer ownership and voting rights within the LAIKA DAO to users/validators, underpinning the consensus mechanism on the L2 network and enhancing Laika's value and significance.
