Prince Harry’s immigration papers closer to disclosure: Biden's DHS ordered to release visa plea

Judge requires DHS to hand over Prince Harry's immigration documents despite administration's efforts to block release

Legal setback for Joe Biden's administration as Prince Harry's immigration paperwork inches closer to public release following a big court ruling. A judge has reportedly ordered Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to hand over Prince Harry’s immigration papers after it was sued by the Heritage Foundation. The case will undergo further review by the court to determine whether they should be made public.

Prince Harry, who has been seeking US citizenship since stepping down from his royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California, faced scrutiny after his memoir made a bombshell disclosure about past drug use. The Heritage Foundation sued the DHS, alleging that the administration showed favoritism to the Duke of Sussex by granting him "preferential treatment" in allowing entry to the U.S.

DHS ordered to hand over Prince Harry's Immigration documents by March 21

D.C. District Court Judge Carl Nichols has requested DHS to provide their response and documents by March 21. It has made a request to detail, “the records it is withholding and the particular harm that would arise from public disclosure of them”.
For days now, DHS has been working diligently to block the release of the documents following the Duke's admission of using cannabis, cocaine, and magic mushrooms in his memoir- an apparent breach of US visa regulations. However court in its order said, “Agency affidavits are insufficiently detailed to permit meaningful review of exemption claims… when the number of withheld documents is relatively small, and when the dispute turns on the contents of the withheld documents, and not the parties’ interpretations of those documents.”

U.S. embassy has warned of an imminent attack in Moscow by 'extremists', asked its citizens to leave Russia

The U.S. embassy in Russia has issued a warning about imminent plans by terrorists to carry out an attack in Moscow. The embassy urged all U.S. citizens in Russia to leave immediately but did not provide specific details about the nature of the threat. The advisory recommended avoiding large gatherings, including concerts, over the next 48 hours and staying vigilant in crowded areas.
The FSB disclosed that the ISIS-Khorasan cell operating in Russia's Kaluga region had been planning an attack on a synagogue using firearms. The militants were confronted by Russian special forces, and after resisting, they were neutralized by return fire. During the operation, firearms, ammunition, and components for an improvised explosive device were discovered and seized.

Marjorie Taylor Greene slams Biden for 'disrespecting' Laken Riley during SOTU address

Biden advocates for migration bill while addressing death of Laken Riley, sparking conservative backlash.

In the aftermath of the State of the Union address, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene launches a scathing attack on President Joe Biden, blaming his policies for the death of Laken Riley. The reaction came after President Joe Biden, who was addressing the Union for the first time since announcing his candidacy for a second presidential run, forgot the name of the deceased nursing student Laken Riley. But it didn't stop there; he also advocated for his immigration bill, which didn't sit well with some US lawmakers.

During his speech, the POTUS attempted to address the initiatives "Say Her Name Laken Riley" and "STOP THE BIDEN BORDER CRISIS," spearheaded by U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. TOUGH WORDS FOR ISRAEL

Biden issued a sharp directive to Israel's leaders, telling them not to hold up humanitarian aid to Palestinians for political purposes.
"To the leadership of Israel I say this: Humanitarian assistance cannot be a secondary consideration or a bargaining chip," Biden said. "Protecting and saving innocent lives has to be a priority. As we look to the future, the only real solution to this situation is a two-state solution."
Biden has faced increasing pressure from fellow Democrats over his support for Israel's response to the Oct. 7 attacks by Palestinian Hamas militants.
"I’ve been working non-stop to establish an immediate ceasefire that would last for six weeks," he said, reiterating U.S. policy but using the word "ceasefire" that his administration once shied away from.

Japan Couples Sue to End Surname Law, This Time With Business Backing

Six couples sued the Japanese government over a law that requires married spouses to have the same surname, the latest legal challenge against a century-old custom that many argue perpetuates inequality, as well as personal and practical harm.

(Bloomberg) -- Six couples sued the Japanese government over a law that requires married spouses to have the same surname, the latest legal challenge against a century-old custom that many argue perpetuates inequality, as well as personal and practical harm.

Ten plaintiffs — including legal and common law couples — filed suit on Friday in a Tokyo district court and one couple in Sapporo, coinciding with International Women’s Day to draw attention to the fact that the practice disproportionately affects women. If the Supreme Court rules that the law is unconstitutional it will go on to be reviewed in parliament.

Previous legal challenges, including one in 2021, were dismissed by the top court, but calls for change have grown louder as awareness grows about the professional setbacks that women suffer. That’s giving the lawyers and plaintiffs behind the current lawsuit a confidence boost.
“More and more male managers are in favor of a system where married couples can have a choice,” said Makiko Terahara, the lawyer leading the case who worked on two similar lawsuits in the past. “Third time will be the charm.”

Japan’s powerful business lobby group Keidanren, known for its conservative stance, expressed support last month when Chairman Masakazu Tokura said at a news conference, “I personally think we should introduce a separate surname system.” Keidanren plans to submit a recommendation letter to the government as early as the first half of this year on the issue.

Biden Orders Military to Build Port to Ease Gaza’s Hunger Crisis

President Joe Biden directed the US military to establish a temporary port on the Gaza coast to ease the humanitarian crisis in the territory sparked by the Israel-Hamas war, and used his State of the Union speech to call on Israel to let more aid into the territory.

(Bloomberg) -- President Joe Biden directed the US military to establish a temporary port on the Gaza coast to ease the humanitarian crisis in the territory sparked by the Israel-Hamas war, and used his State of the Union speech to call on Israel to let more aid into the territory.

Biden reiterated Israel’s right to defend itself in the wake of Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack but said he was working nonstop for a six-week cease-fire. He said the pier would enable “a massive increase” in the amount of aid getting into Gaza.

“But Israel must also do its part,” Biden said in his speech Thursday night in Washington. “To Israel I say this — humanitarian assistance cannot be a secondary consideration or a bargaining chip.”
The ships will carry food, water, medicine and other supplies, according to US officials, who spoke before Biden’s speech. They said the temporary pier will provide capacity equivalent to hundreds of truckloads of additional assistance each day. US officials plan for control of the port to transition to a commercially operated facility over time.

Biden’s bid is only the latest effort by the US to address the dire conditions for the 2 million Gazans following Israel’s military campaign to root out Hamas, which is labeled a terrorist group by the US and European Union. Earlier this week, the UN Children’s Fund warned that children are dying in Gaza because of a lack of food, water and medical services.

Hong Kong's new national security bill includes stiff penalties and more power to suppress dissen

Hong Kong's new national security bill includes stiff penalties and more power to suppress dissent

HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong unveiled a new national security bill Friday that proposes up to life imprisonment for offenses like treason and insurrection, a move deepening worries over further erosion of the city’s freedoms after Beijing imposed a similar law four years ago that all but wiped out dissent.
HT Image

The proposed law will expand the government’s power in stamping out future challenges to its rule, targeting espionage, external interference and protection of state secrets among others. Tougher punishment will be imposed on individuals who collude with external forces to carry out certain illegal acts, such as sabotage and sedition, compared to those who do so on their own.

Under a push by Hong Kong leader John Lee to finish the legislative process “at full speed,” lawmakers are set to begin their debate Friday in a meeting that was specially arranged to expedite it. The bill is expected to pass easily, possibly in weeks, in a legislature packed with Beijing loyalists following an electoral overhaul.
Critics have warned the legislation will make Hong Kong’s legal framework increasingly similar to that of mainland China, and add to a decline in civil liberties that were promised to remain intact for 50 years when the former British colony returned to Chinese rule in 1997.

However, the government pointed to the massive anti-government protests that rocked the city in 2019 to justify its necessity, insisting it would only affect “an extremely small minority” of disloyal residents.

Democratic Congresswomen don white to State of the Union

“As the hours count down to President Biden’s State of the Union, I’ve joined my @DemWomenCaucus colleagues in all white to symbolize our joint commitment to women’s rights,” Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.) tweeted on X. “We will never stop advocating for women, from reproductive rights to workplace equality,” she added. Their coordinated white appearance is said to make a direct parallel to the struggle for women's suffrage. This year, "reproductive freedom," a crucial topic that is still up for debate, is the main focus.
Reuters reports that Democratic Women's caucus members are wearing white outfits with pins stating "Fighting for Reproductive Freedom" to emphasize their strong backing for reproductive rights.
