Before we ask the question if Humanity can survive a global catastrophe, we must first answer what kind of global catastrophe humanity faces in order we can prepare for it? And what is a global catastrophe? A global catastrophe refers to a theoretical event capable of severely impacting human well-being worldwide, potentially threatening or even obliterating modern civilization. An event that could lead to human extinction or significantly and permanently limit humanity's existence or potential is termed an "existential risk", meaning an event or scenario that could cause human extinction or permanently hinder humanity's ability to prosper and advance. These risks threaten the very survival of humanity, severely limiting our long-term potential and capacity for progress. But humans are rational animals, we can think of ways to survive and adopt. We just need to prepare and know what to expect and in case of a global catastrophe.

What are global catastrophe human is potentially facing now? Is there a real possibility it will happen? here are a list of global catastrophe that we are facing and potentially happening.
Nuclear War - There are approximately 14,000 nuclear weapons globally, with 90% controlled by Russia and the US. Even the smallest weapon in the US arsenal (100 kilotons) would cause catastrophic devastation if detonated over a major city, igniting and destroying everything within a six-mile diameter. If you survive the initial impact you're not out of danger, nuclear blasts generate city-wide fires that push smoke into the stratosphere, blocking sunlight for ten years and dropping temperatures to levels experienced during the last ice age. Now you have to survive the radiation fall out and the nuclear winter.
Catastrophic Climate Change - The reality of climate change is no longer up for debate; it has escalated into a global emergency driven by human activities. Despite overwhelming evidence and increasingly frequent signs of its impact—such as the devastating fires in Australia, the unusual phenomenon of green snow in Antarctica, the rising sea levels endangering Venice, and the record-breaking temperatures of the last five years—humanity remains lethargic in its response. This gradual progression towards disaster is akin to a "slow burn apocalypse." The threat may seem remote to many, but its effects will inevitably be felt by all. If we continue to delay meaningful action, the consequences will become more severe and unavoidable, ultimately engulfing us all in the crisis we failed to adequately address.
Global Pandemics - As we've all learned, surviving a pandemic is a waiting game, waiting for scientists working overtime on developing a vaccine and new treatments that could help us develop immunity before we get sick and stop the spread of the disease. Advances in medical science, public health infrastructure, and global communication have further improved our ability to manage and mitigate such crises. However, the key to surviving a global pandemic lies in prompt and coordinated action, robust healthcare systems, effective vaccines and treatments, and international collaboration to control the spread of the disease and minimize its impact.

So if ever any of the 3 global catastrophe happens, are we prepared for it? can we survive out there on our own or with our family? While this are unlikely to happen, let's get prepared and learn simple survival skills that will help us in case a global catastrophe happens. If you happen to find yourself and your family in a post-apocalyptic wasteland—how do you survive? There are many everyday objects that can help in an emergency.

  1. D-I-Y - A fire alarm can be used to start a fire, and a simple plastic bottle can be used to sterilize drinking water. Just fill the bottle and leave it in the sunlight. The UV rays will pass through the water and kill any germs. You can also create an efficient gas-fire stove from tin cans. This stove uses gasification, the same process that powered cars in Europe during World War II.
  2. Choose a good Hide Out - Get out of the cities. While cities are convenient and full of shops, they're one of the worst places to be if civilization collapses and you need to be self-sufficient. Without electricity, gas, running water, lights, or heating, and with everything covered in tarmac, you won't be able to grow your own food. Instead, head to the countryside. Find a spot near a river with fresh, drinkable water and start learning how to grow your own food. The Lake District would be an ideal location. Just be sure to avoid the Arctic circle or the middle of a desert.
  3. Pack a Survival Kit - You receive a ten or four-minute warning to evacuate your home. Quickly gather essentials like fresh water and canned food. If you forget your can opener, no problem—you've learned how to open one without it! Grab a knife, some twine for tying items together, or in a pinch, use your iPod headphones instead. And don't overlook that empty plastic bottle for sterilizing water. It's all about resourcefulness, ingenuity, and finding new uses for everyday items.
  4. Use your Mobile Phone - In our modern world, mobile phones have become indispensable. However, in the event of a civilization collapse, their usefulness would be severely limited. There is one crucial feature that would continue functioning for a few months: GPS. Satellites in orbit provide this service, and they could persist for approximately six months even if abandoned. While you wouldn’t be able to make calls or send tweets, the map function on your phone would still work, relying solely on satellite signals rather than the mobile phone network. This also applies to your smartphone’s compass. So if you going to get out of the city and head somewhere safer your phone is still useful, just map out in advance were your heading and how to there fast because there's slim to zero chance you can recharge your phone batteries.
  5. Be a Scavenger and a good one at that - Survival hinges on mastering scavenging and foraging skills to obtain essential resources. Among the most valuable items to acquire are a car battery and alternator. These components can be repurposed to create a simple windmill or watermill, allowing you to recharge the battery. Additionally, salvaged solar panels can serve as a reliable source for charging your mobile phone.

When it comes to navigation, an analog wristwatch can be a lifesaver.

  • Gather your useful gang - If you find yourself alone in a catastrophe or your with your family it's important to have somebody with practical skills. Think about the people with practical skills that would be invaluable in your and everybody's survival. For instance, someone who owns an allotment and knows how to grow food would be a great asset. Likewise, individuals skilled in carpentry, metalwork, or fixing things—like car mechanics—would play a crucial role. In an apocalypse or catastrophe practical skills is premium, you will need it and you will need it everyday to survive.

So, can humans survive in a global catastrophe or apocalypse, like i said, we are a rational animal, we can think and rationalize any situation it's how we respond to a situation that will make or break us or you can just escape to the Moon or Mars if you have the means.
