Jeon Jung-kook, commonly known as Jungkook, is a prominent South Korean singer who gained fame as a member and vocalist of the immensely popular boy band BTS. Throughout his career, Jungkook has showcased his talent not only within the group but also through solo endeavors, solidifying his status as a versatile and accomplished artist.
In 2016, Jungkook made his mark with the solo track "Begin," which was featured as part of BTS' discography. This was followed by "Euphoria" in 2018 and "My Time" in 2020, all of which achieved success on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart. Additionally, he lent his vocals to the soundtrack song "Stay Alive" for the BTS-based webtoon 7Fates: Chakho.
His ventures beyond BTS have been equally impressive. In 2022, Jungkook collaborated with American singer Charlie Puth on the single "Left and Right," reaching number 22 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The same year, he made history by becoming the first South Korean artist to release an official song for the FIFA World Cup soundtrack, titled "Dreamers," which he performed at the 2022 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony.
Jungkook's solo career reached new heights in 2023 with the release of his debut solo single "Seven," featuring Latto. This song shattered numerous chart and streaming records, debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, the Global 200, and the Global Excl. US charts. Notably, "Seven" became the fastest song in history to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify.
Following the success of "Seven," Jungkook continued to make waves with his follow-up single "3D," featuring Jack Harlow. This track debuted at number five on both the Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, marking Jungkook as the first South Korean solo artist to achieve two consecutive top-five entries on the latter chart.
Through his exceptional talent and groundbreaking achievements, Jungkook has cemented his position as a trailblazing figure in the global music industry, captivating audiences worldwide with his captivating vocals and undeniable charisma.
Jeon Jung-kook, born on September 1, 1997, in Busan, South Korea, hails from a family consisting of his parents and an elder brother. His educational journey began at Baekyang Elementary and Middle School in Busan before he transferred to Singu Middle School in Seoul when he became a trainee.
In 2011, Jungkook showcased his talents by auditioning for the South Korean talent show Superstar K in Daegu. Although he wasn't selected, his potential caught the attention of seven entertainment companies, ultimately leading him to choose to become a trainee under Big Hit Entertainment. His decision was influenced by witnessing RM, now a fellow band member and leader in BTS, perform.
To refine his dance skills for his upcoming debut, Jungkook traveled to Los Angeles in the summer of 2012 to receive dance training from Movement Lifestyle. During this time, he also appeared in Jo Kwon's "I'm Da One" music video and served as a backup dancer for Glam.
In 2017, Jungkook graduated from the School of Performing Arts Seoul, an arts high school. In November 2016, he made the decision to forgo taking the CSATs, South Korea's nationwide university entrance exam. Later, in March 2022, he received his degree from Global Cyber University's Department of Broadcasting and Entertainment, where he was honored with the President's Award, the highest accolade bestowed by the institution.
On June 12, 2013, Jeon Jung-kook made his debut as a member of BTS with the release of the single "2 Cool 4 Skool". Within BTS, he has showcased his vocal prowess through three solo songs. The first, "Begin", a pop track featured on the 2016 album "Wings", narrates his journey of relocating to Seoul at a young age to pursue his dream of becoming an idol. The song expresses his gratitude towards his fellow bandmates for their support and care during that transitional period.
The second solo endeavor, "Euphoria", released on April 5, 2018, is a future bass track accompanied by a nine-minute short film. It served as the introduction to the third part of BTS' "Love Yourself" series. Produced by DJ Swivel, "Euphoria" reached number five on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. Its full studio version was later included in BTS' compilation album "Love Yourself: Answer", released on August 24, 2018.
The third solo track, "My Time", featured on BTS' 2020 studio album "Map of the Soul: 7", is an R&B song that reflects on the sacrifices of foregoing teenage experiences due to his career commitments. "My Time" debuted at number 84 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Not limited to singing, Jungkook has also contributed to BTS as a producer. He co-produced two songs for the group: "Love is Not Over", from their 2015 extended play (EP) "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1", and "Magic Shop", from their 2018 album "Love Yourself: Tear", where he is credited as the main producer for both tracks.
In October 2018, Jungkook, alongside his bandmates, was honored with the fifth-class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit by the President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in. Additionally, in July 2021, Jungkook and his fellow BTS members were appointed as Special Presidential Envoys for Future Generations and Culture by President Moon Jae-in. Their role is to lead global initiatives for future generations and enhance South Korea's diplomatic efforts and global standing in the international community.
