Can SUSTAINABILITY be our last chance?
The world was a better place in the past. These days, one hears this proverb used more and more frequently.Possibly the primary cause of this criticism could be the growing populace. The world in which we live is becoming increasingly congested every day. Thirty years ago, there were five billion people on the planet; now, there are over eight billion.
Due to the increasing population, natural resources are facing the
danger of rapid depletion. As a result of rapid consumption, the life resources of all living things are endangered. Unnecessary use of water resources, bread thrown in the garbage, increased use of plastic are examples of major threats. According to UN data, one in every 3 people today cannot access drinking water. 1.8 billion people could die from water scarcity by 2050.
When we see these dangers, we need to ask ourselves one question:
WHAT CAN WE DO?
The answer to this question is to make our resources sustainable. passing through.
Sustainability is a philosophy that aims to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It aims to prevent problems such as the depletion of natural resources, environmental pollution, and social inequality.
Sustainability has three core dimensions: ecological, economic, and social.
- The ecological dimension aims to use natural resources efficiently and protect the environment. This includes practices such as energy conservation, recycling, waste management, sustainable agriculture, and forestry.
- The economic dimension aims for sustainable economic growth and prosperity. This includes efficient use of resources, the development of environmentally friendly technologies, and social justice.
- The social dimension aims for the well-being and equality of all. This includes services such as education, healthcare, housing, and social protection.
Sustainability is an important goal for the entire world. The growing world population and the depletion of natural resources make sustainability even more important.
Steps can be taken to achieve sustainability at the individual, institutional, and government levels. Individually, we can contribute to sustainability by making behaviors such as saving energy, recycling, and using sustainable products. Institutions can promote sustainability by adopting sustainability policies and practices. Governments can support sustainability by setting sustainability goals and developing policies and regulations to implement them.
Sustainability is an issue that we all need to work together on to create a livable world for future generations.
Here are some specific examples of sustainability:
- Individual: Using public transportation, eating less meat, and buying locally grown food.
- Institutional: Investing in renewable energy, reducing waste, and promoting diversity and inclusion.
- Governmental: Passing legislation to protect the environment, investing in education and healthcare, and providing social safety nets.
