On April 25, U.S. Defense Department spokesman Patrick Ryder said that if the U.S. sends any additional military advisers to Ukraine, it will not be deployed near the front lines.

NATO insists not involved in Ukraine conflict, Kyiv 'has no chance' for €100 billion package According to a Pentagon spokesperson, if Washington decides to add military advisers to Ukraine, it will be a small number and that these people "will work outside the embassy, subject to the same travel restrictions as all diplomatic mission personnel."

Insisting that they were indeed acting as military advisers, Ryder said: "The United States has no intention of conducting combat operations inside Ukraine and these forces will not be anywhere near the front lines."

Separately, on the same day, Gergely Gulyas, chief of staff of the Hungarian prime minister, said that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is becoming more closely involved in the Ukraine conflict, pushing it into a new phase

Commenting after the Hungarian cabinet's discussion on the situation in Ukraine, Gulyas said: "The new situation is related to the fact that, whereas in the past, member states supported Kiev only individually, now the alliance is preparing to become an active participant in this conflict."

NATO wants to provide financial support, as well as weapons and training Ukrainian soldiers. Even some European Union leaders, such as French President Emmanuel Macron, "are now quite openly talking about the need to send troops to Ukraine." The Hungarian cabinet is concerned about these developments, as Western aid to Kiev from the supply of protective equipment has now become the transfer of the most powerful weapons.

However, the Hungarian official warned: "This will not bring victory to Ukraine or regain territory, but only to continue the conflict." Noting that the events of the conflict in Ukraine could take a turn for the worst, eventually triggering another world war between nuclear-armed and confrontational parties, Gulyas urged NATO to avoid direct conflict with Russia.

Budapest continues its efforts to persuade its allies to "stay out of the conflict," and it has no plans to participate in the crisis in any way. Gulyas said: "We will continue not to provide weapons, not to send troops and not to allow the transport of weapons across the Hungarian-Ukrainian border."
