Barcelona travels to face Napoli in the Champions League while Liverpool meets Luton Town with a heavily depleted squad.
Liverpool - Luton Town: 2:30 AM, 22/2, Round 26 of the Premier League
Liverpool has secured two consecutive victories in the Premier League after losing to Arsenal in the crucial title race clash. The 4-1 victory against Brentford for Liverpool seemed relatively straightforward as "The Kop" settled the match in the second half, especially compared to Brentford's later challenge that restricted Manchester City to just one goal at the Etihad Stadium.
However, the victory came at a hefty cost for manager Jurgen Klopp as Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nunez all suffered injuries and were substituted off in the first half. The situation became even more concerning for Klopp as Mohamed Salah, who had just returned from injury and made a significant impact off the bench against Brentford, also picked up an injury and missed the latest training session.
Luton Town displayed a spirited performance at home, but conceding two early goals led to their 1-2 defeat against Manchester United last Sunday. Nevertheless, under the guidance of manager Rob Edwards, they have experience facing strong opponents, as evidenced by their draw against Liverpool in the first leg where they took the lead. Additionally, Luton remains undefeated in their last five away matches.
Despite this, Liverpool has bolstered their squad this season, and playing at Anfield has proven to be overwhelming for mid to lower-table opponents. Luton Town has recently suffered significant setbacks, notably with defender Tom Lockyer experiencing a heart condition and forward Elijah Adebayo injuring his hamstring during the warm-up before the match against Manchester United.
Napoli is currently on their third manager this season, with Rudi Garcia being sacked and more recently Walter Mazzarri departing the club after just three months. The reigning Serie A champions have turned to Francesco Calzona, a former assistant coach of the team who is currently managing the Slovakian national team, to steer the ship for the remainder of the season. Morale within the Naples camp is dwindling, and ahead of tonight's match, they are also concerned about the condition of their key striker, Victor Osimhen, whose fitness remains uncertain despite training.Meanwhile, Barcelona has won three out of their last four matches in La Liga, with results improving after Xavi announced his departure at the end of the season. However, Barcelona has still faced considerable challenges in most of these matches. A penalty in the 90+8 minute by Lewandowski helped Barcelona secure a 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo, while they only managed a narrow 1-0 win against Osasuna, despite the opponent being reduced to ten men in the second half.
Apart from Osimhen, Napoli doesn't have any other personnel concerns, while Barcelona will have to travel to Italy without Joao Felix, Gavi, Ferran Torres, Balde, Marcos Alonso, and Sergi Roberto. In terms of morale, Barcelona seems to be in a better state than Napoli and could potentially win this match. However, Napoli is capable of keeping the margin close enough to seek a favorable result in the second leg.
