Nikola Tesla - interesting facts from life
Nikola Tesla is known as one of the most brilliant minds and one of the greatest inventors in Serbia and in the world. His inventions such as the Tesla transformer, the rotating magnetic field, his contribution to the modulation of radio signals and his work in the field of X-rays form the core of today's science and research.
What interested the world's population, and still today, was his private life, which was, to say the least, mystical and full of controversies. He led a solitary life, which tickled the human imagination, and gave people reason to attribute all kinds of stories to him. Everyone wanted to be the first to announce something new about the young genius.
Not all of those stories were true, exaggeration is always present, but certain strange habits and phobias were certainly present in the life of this scientist, followed him and manifested themselves in his work. Each of us has our own strange ideas and habits, but a couple of Tesla's bizarre obsessions and habits were particularly interesting to us.
Obsession with the number three
Tesla was incredibly obsessed with the number three, as well as all numbers divisible by three. He had to wash his hands three times in a row or walk around the building as many times before entering it. Many associated his "rituals" with obsessive-compulsive behavior.
The volume of the dish
According to the story of his friends and those who had the opportunity to find themselves in the restaurants he visited, before he would bring a bite to his mouth he had to calculate its volume, because otherwise he would not feel any pleasure in eating. He even calculated the volume of a cup of coffee, a plate of soup... They say that because of all this, he mostly liked to eat alone.
Light
At an early age, images and scenes began to appear to him, accompanied by a flash of light, which blurred his view of real scenes and objects. He explained that it was not a hallucination, but that at that moment he could really see images, so clear and vivid, that he used to be unable to clarify what was real and what was not. Later, he tried to use this "power" in his work and creation.
Jewelry
He had a great aversion to women's earrings, especially pearl earrings, and even avoided any conversation with ladies who wore them. At one of the dinners, his friends introduced him to a very interesting and beautiful young lady, a member of high society, but he hardly managed to establish communication with her, and persistently avoided looking at her, precisely because of the pearls she was wearing.
Women
What interested the world public the most was the love life of the young genius. Journalists raced to find out if there was a woman occupying his thoughts, and if any of them would be able to "calm" him down. But, despite speculations, Tesla remained single, and did not show any great interest in finding a life partner and getting married. According to contemporaries, there is a story that Tesla thought that celibacy had a better effect on his creativity.
Sharpened senses and a nervous breakdown
Tesla has always had keen senses, so he claimed that he could hear thunder at a distance of 880 kilometers. However, what happened to him while working in Budapest was incomparable to anything else, and the doctors, for lack of a better name, defined the condition as a nervous breakdown. He could hear the ticking of the wristwatch, which was located three rooms away from him, while the soft landing of the fly on the table caused a real rumble in his head. The sound of a locomotive, thirty kilometers away from him, would make even his table and the ground under his feet shake, causing great pain in his body. "Deafening noise from near and far," he wrote, and doctors declared it an incurable disease.
Pigeons
He was extremely fond of pigeons, and was fascinated by them. Every day he came to the park to feed them, and he took the wounded and sick to his apartment, so many hotel guests complained about the noise and the smell. However, one dove occupied a special place in his heart, he loved her like no other being, took care of her and emphasized that as long as he has her, there is a purpose in his life. He continued to care for her even when she became ill, and her death affected him deeply.
HIS FATHER WANTED TESLA TO BECOME
A PRIEST
Tesla's father Milutin was a priest, so Tesla should have followed in his footsteps. Deathly ill, lying in bed, he managed to blackmail his father. He asked Father Milutin to let him go to a technical school instead of studying to become a priest and he would get well. When his father allowed him to enroll in a technical school, Nikola recovered after a few weeks.
HE HAS NOT FINISHED THE FACULTY
He dropped out of college in his second year and never finished it. In addition to not finishing college, he managed to create inventions that changed the world. He refused to accept the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1912.
It's likely that when you read these facts about Tesla's life, you won't be able to help but wonder how fine the line is between genius and insanity. Can we even talk about madness? What if our brains are simply unable to grasp the larger meaning of all those things, which were an integral part of his genius personality? One thing is certain, no matter how mysterious he led a life, it all falls in the shadow of his deeds and what he did for humanity. Nikola Tesla is a name that is respected in the world, and while we say it with pride and emphasize our common origin, deep in our hearts we hope that a new Tesla will be found again, who will have the conditions to create in his country, among his people.
