It's a journey you never want to end. Today, I am here to share a true story with you. It's a story about my mother, a love tale of my parents. This story is intricately linked to these handicrafts, all designed and created by my mom. You can see the colorful pillow covers, quilts, and handkerchiefs. Each stitch with vibrant yarn tells a story. Allow me, your host Jawad, to take you on this journey. The boarding time is right now. Let's start, shall we?

Don’t Let the Vines Bend You

"Love Stitches of Life" by My Mother

The relationship between my parents was so beautiful. Though my father is no longer with us, my mother still holds the greatest respect and love for him. I see it in her face, her smile, her words, and every aspect of her life. This is something every couple needs—a foundation of trust and belief. I understand these feelings deeply. Maybe that's why I'm searching for pure love in my life. I haven't found it yet, but I hope I will.

The Beginning of Love Stitches

My father was in the navy, which meant he often had to be away for days, sometimes months. We were toddlers then (my elder sister and I), living happily with our mother. One day, after returning home, my father told us he had to sail the following week and would probably be gone for a year. It was a significant opportunity for him as he had been chosen to lead the journey. However, he hesitated because he wanted my mother's approval. Despite being upset, she encouraged him to accept the proposal. She assured him she was okay with it, even though it meant being apart for a year. This marked the beginning of what I call "Love Stitches." Little did I know what would happen next.

The Journey of Love Stitches

A week later, my father was ready to go. He asked my mother what she would do during his absence. She smiled and said he would find out when he returned. My father knew my mother’s determination. From that day, my mom started designing on paper. We had never seen her do this before. Wait... What? She could draw these?
We were amazed by the numerous designs she created. Every day, after finishing her household chores and taking care of us, she would spend time on her designs. I vividly remember seeing her work late into the night, humming beautiful songs. She began with colorful yarns and needles, and I saw the passion and love in her eyes.

Sick But Strong

During that period, the seasons changed, and my mom fell ill. She had taken this task so personally, staying up night after night in the cold weather. The doctor advised her to rest for a week. Reluctantly, she followed the advice. But after eleven days, she resumed her work, looking even stronger. The needles moved faster through the fabric, but we had no idea what was happening. We were kept in the dark.

The Day of Love Stitches

Two weeks after the expected return date due to bad weather, my father finally came home. He hugged us all, tears streaming down his face. Family meant everything to him. My mother served us food, and afterward, we waited in our room with our father, knowing the big reveal was coming. My mother showed us the handicrafts she had made. The jaw-dropping artistry was fascinating and wonderful. My father held her in his arms and cried. My mom did too. We didn't understand it then, but now I do. My father loved these crafts. He had once expressed a desire for something like this, and my mother had gone above and beyond to fulfill it.

Ending Thoughts

Those stitches told a love story of trust and respect. Each stitch represented a chapter of their relationship. My mother is here with me, and my father is in heaven. But I can still feel his love for her. Those nostalgic moments bring tears to my mother's eyes, but there's always a smile at the end. What a romantic ending!

The pictures in this content were taken by me. My mother created these amazing pieces 25 years ago.

Until we meet again, stay curious, stay connected, and above all, stay true to yourself.
