Splinterlands | The Tragedy

The crackling of the burnt wood threw ambers of ash in the air. Death appeared to have taken it on itself to kiss the living a last time. The silence of the living was disturbed only by the roar of the ocean. The abundant ocean remained a vociferous spectator to the burning villages at its shore – a line the ocean couldn’t cross. The battle between the Fire Landers and Death Landers was not to be interrupted by water.

Yet, young Fineas, was one of the few that survived death’s juggernaut. The burnt-out roof, the land laid waste, the acrid air, and the indifferent water had made Fineas grow weary of those splinters. Even Life did not come to the Fire Landers' rescue or maybe, it was too frightened to take on Death. The Dragons of the lore were only heard of, they weren’t seen nor did they come to the rescue of the fire landers that day. With each gust of wind, the air stoked the dying fire asking it to rise from the ashes, and so did, Fineas’ fear grew into anger. The deep abyss of sorrow turned into an insatiable hunger for revenge. His family, his people, and his friends had met a fate they shouldn’t have.

The Lore | The Legend

For millennia, the fire landers were one of the powerful forces of the splinter realm, and that was the very reason for their downfall. Generation after generation the fire landers did not witness any attack or incident from the other landers – earth, water, dragon, death, and life – and grew complacent. Once thriving fire teachers and their techniques began fading away. It soon became a talk of the lore and later legend. No one in the fire realm knew who they were or what their power was. Just a pocket of fire-spirit teachers remained in the far-off mountains. This was the perfect opportunity for any realm seeking dominance to unleash themselves on the fire landers.

And death was the realm looking to control all. Even the most skeptic of the realms wouldn’t have been ready for what Death Landers did. They not only attacked but also sent almost all Fire Landers to the spirit realm. They had no existence in the splinter realm anymore. But all this was set to change as Fineas would be the one to get the Fire realm back to strength.

Fineas | The Commander of the Fire Realm

Fineas was determined to bring the legend to life. Fineas undertook the arduous journey to the mountains to find the ancient teachers. He was rewarded for his efforts. Not only did he find the teachers, but they were seeking him. It was destiny that brought them together but it was his rage that transformed the Fire Land.

Fineas’ was focused on regaining the Fire Landers’ lost strength. He joined forces with the Fire Landers of the woods, mountains, deeps, and geysers. He brought together the tribes of Molten Ogre, Living Lava, Exploding Dwarf, and Ettin Spearman. He taught them all that he learned from the mystical teachers. Fire Land had become a formidable force once again.

But even before the Fire Landers could reach the death realm, Fineas’ reputation and lore preceded him.

Fineas’ Lore | The Fire That Evoked Fear!

Death Elemental, the king of the Death Landers, wasn’t amused that the Firies had risen again. The oracle of the Death realm, the Undead Badger, had warned the King before the attack. Now it was too late.

Night Stalker, the Death spy, barely made it back. The Serpentine Spy of the Fire realm was close on the heels of the Night Stalker and it was an arduous effort to slip off the hands of the Serpentine. The Night Stalker stood in obeisance in front of the king. He gathered the intelligence on Fineas and awaited the Elemental’s order. Elemental raised his hands asking the Night Stalker to speak and he promptly unwrapped the papyrus roll and read.

> ***Fineas is a young warrior who lives alone on the outskirts of the Burning Lands' Smoldering Forest. He moved from Lyveria some years ago when he was only a boy, knowing that the expert combat training for which he was destined was only available in the Fire Splinter. Quickly after settling in the burning woods, he joined up with the martial scrappers of Balfair. Once he learned everything he could from these rugged Human and Goblin fighters, Fineas retreated to his own treehouse as more teacher than student. Today he practices his skills only on the Mount Mox battlefield, where his whip whistles, cracks, and sings with boundless fury.***

As the Night Stalker concluded, the Death Elemental snipped him. It was well-known that the King didn’t take kind to bad news, worse so, the bad news provider.

“How did we miss the Human and Goblin fighters?” the king bellowed. Not particularly looking for an answer. But something told him that he would find out pretty soon. What he had left behind had turned the fire realm into something stronger than he had known!
