The Eiffel Tower, now a global symbol of Paris, faced intense opposition during its construction. Many people were against it for different reasons.

In 1887, a group of prominent French artists and intellectuals criticized the tower, describing it as a "useless and monstrous" structure that would ruin the city's aesthetic. Their disdain was partly rooted in cultural and professional rivalry, as they preferred a more traditional design.
 
Despite fears and ridicule, Gustave Eiffel defended his creation, comparing it to ancient engineering marvels. Originally intended to be temporary, the Eiffel Tower's practical uses and growing cultural significance ensured its survival, transforming it into an enduring icon of French culture.
