[Hobby] My personal Guilty Pleasure
Greetings! This will be the second article of the series where I write about my hobby:- Gunpla! For those who are not familiar with the term, it means Gundam Plastic, or plastic model mecha of the Gundam Universe animated series/movies. Boring side note, Bandai is not the only Gunpla maker but in recent years, there are multiple brands from China that joins the fray for the slice of pie in the gunpla industry.
Assembled without the need for glue, Gunpla kits consist of pre-colored plastic parts that seamlessly interlock. Notably, these models often feature articulation, granting enthusiasts the ability to pose the completed mecha in dynamic and expressive stances. The grades dictate the intricacy of design, with higher grades like Master and Perfect offering aficionados a canvas for more sophisticated and detailed creations.
Beyond the mere act of assembly, Gunpla serves as a global phenomenon, attracting devotees of the Gundam series and aficionados of model craftsmanship alike. The hobby transcends mere construction; it opens avenues for customization, painting, and the construction of intricate dioramas to magnify the aesthetic appeal of the completed kits. In essence, Gunpla becomes an artistic and immersive channel through which enthusiasts can passionately express their admiration for the Gundam universe and the allure of mecha aesthetics.
This industry caters to those who loves Gundam and Mecha universe. They can be collectors, hobbyist, and just a big fan of the animated series. Personally for me, I'm a long time hobbyist. I started at a fairly early age with this hobby but due to financial distress my family had to go through, I stopped delving into the hobby since the kits are quite pricey. Especially for good ones. When I start to earn my own money, I start to relive that childhood live again. Although I could safely say that this hobby is not for kids of under the age of 12, due to the size of the parts of kit. Choking hazard. You can actually refer to the video above and image below to understand what I mean.
To be quite honest, I am quite blessed that I could relive my childhood memories with every kit I assembled to date. But what's more than that is my wife supported my hobby. Enough about that. What I love the most about the hobby is that it teaches me the value of patience. From cutting the small parts from the runner, to cleaning them up, to assembling them one by one. If I were to focus my time on assembling the kit, it would take approximately 3 days to assemble a medium sized kit - a Master grade as you could see in the video I attached here.
Personally for me, the kit in the video is one of the latest kit I assembled and it has become my favorite so far. Master Grade Eclipse Gundam. Not to sound nerdy, but who does not love a transformable Robot into a jet fighter (okay, not everyone loves the hobby or familiar with it :D). The videos I shared is actually me assembling the kit and the videos are edited by my buddy. Anyway, the point of me writing this article is to share to you readers of what I do aside from doing researches for crypto and writing blogs on my spare time. There are so much that I want to do, but I understand that I need to start them one at a time since you can only have so much time in the world.
