Manager Pochettino still has about 18 months left on his contract with Chelsea, and terminating the Argentine strategist along with his extensive coaching staff would incur a compensation fee exceeding £10 million for "The Blues".
Any expenditures approved before June will be factored into the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) this season. It's worth noting that Chelsea is tightening spending to avoid breaches after splurging over £1 billion on player acquisitions since billionaire Todd Boehly took over.Independent financial experts estimate that Chelsea needs to raise tens of millions of pounds from player sales by the end of June to avoid being accused of breaching spending limits. The situation becomes more serious as "The Blues" failed to offload players like Armando Broja in the recent winter transfer window.
Premier League clubs are allowed a maximum loss of £105 million over a three-year period, although there are certain exemptions, such as spending on infrastructure, women's football, and investment in youth development.
However, compensation payments from sacked managers' contracts are not exempt. Alongside Manager Pochettino, there's an extensive coaching staff including Jesus Perez, Miguel d'Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and his son, Sebastiano Pochettino.
Billionaire Boehly has spent a considerable sum on sacking managers since acquiring Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in May 2022. Specifically, Manager Thomas Tuchel received £10 million upon his dismissal, while Manager Graham Potter was compensated with £13 million.
The 2-4 defeat to Wolves over the weekend saw Chelsea drop below mid-table in the Premier League and almost completely lose their chance to compete for a Champions League spot next season. "The Blues" will qualify for the Europa League next season if they win the FA Cup.
Chelsea will visit Aston Villa in an FA Cup fourth-round replay this midweek. Additionally, if they defeat Liverpool in the League Cup final, the London-based club will secure a place in the Conference League next year.
