How I Went From Bedroom Coaching to Building A Lead Gen Business Directory
— A Founder’s Story
I'm Alice Hlidkova. Born in the Czech Republic. Raised in New York City.
Seven years ago, I started my entrepreneurial journey in the most unexpected place: the corner of my grad school dorm room. I was at Carnegie Mellon University, surrounded by brilliant minds—nerds, creatives, and thinkers. I was navigating my own set of challenges: Asperger’s, dyslexia, and ADHD. Safe to say, communication didn’t come naturally.
So, I did what any confused, driven, slightly chaotic 30-year old might do—I started a coaching agency.
My mom couldn’t pronounce “entrepreneur,” so she called me an “entre-printer.” My brother told me I was one, so I looked up the word in the dictionary. Eventually, I took a business course on entrepreneurship. Did I follow what I learned? Absolutely not. Not until I failed—twice.
My First Two Startups Flopped—but They Taught Me Everything.
First, there was a media startup. I made money, but my strategy was all wrong. I partnered with the wrong businessman–a con artist. Then I tried a land-flipping business, but I lost motivation. One deal in particular stuck with me—a retired man in a wheelchair who couldn’t afford to pay his property taxes. He had no choice but to sell his mountain land far below market value. Even though the numbers made sense on paper, it didn’t sit right with me. I didn’t feel good about making money that way. What I didn’t know at the time was that I wasn’t failing—I was doing reconnaissance.
Learn what founders need to succeed:
- Clarity on their value proposition (my coaching agency helped with that)
- Access to capital and pitching skills (my media startup + pitch app experience taught me that)
- And now, the one thing every founder struggles with:
- LEAD GENERATION.
Let’s be real—SEO, ads, paid funnels? It can easily cost you $500+ a month minimum, and even then, results aren’t guaranteed.
So, What Works Now?
We’re going back to basics. Back to what’s always worked in business:
Referrals.
Yup, good ol’ fashioned word-of-mouth—but with a modern twist. And that’s where HealthyWealthyLives.com comes in.
I invested in a $5K lead system (thanks to a well-timed barter that helped me cover another $5K). And out of that came this venture:
A business directory for health and wealth entrepreneurs who want:
- Qualified leads
- Less stress
- More aligned clients
We all want a healthier, wealthier life—and I believe we can get there with less effort, if we systemize the way we generate leads.
Here’s How It Works:
I send out viral emails—funny, inspiring, or just plain useful videos tied to your service category.
Someone clicks? They see your referral form.
If they vibe with your offer, they pop in their name and email.
You get the lead. Simple.
Well… not simple.
It’s a system. And that’s the point. Big companies have systems. That’s why they’re not broke.
So if health or wealth is part of your service offering—get in touch. I’ll list you.
You tell me how many leads you want per week.
I’ll handle the rest.
Let’s grow together—less stress, more flow.
