How To Run A Basic Node On Your Computer?

If you are anything like me: meaning if you find code and running nodes complex than this is the only article you need. The beauty of tech is that you can first learn and apply your learnings on testnet (meaning you are not putting any capital without knowing what you are doing and whether this is going the right way) Lets understand how you can learn node running on your system.
All you need is a basic laptop. If you are working on a windows pc you will run these commands on Windows CLI (CLI is Command Line) and if you are on a macbook then you run the commands on Terminal. And last but not the least you need the internet to install scripts and packages and run your system locally. (Note: You need the internet at all times)

Now, you know what is needed to get you started hence lets hop on to the next steps. Well to find a chain where users can become validators simple visit Nodes.Guru

Next, click on Testnet Portal (Violet Tab on the right hand side top corner) This will take you to the chains that are testing out their tech.



From here you can check active testnet projects. When you click on one, a new page will appear with basic guides to help you prep your system.

Essentially in most cases you will have to prep your crypto wallet. Ensure that you have added the chain on to your wallet. Lets take the example of Dill.
When you click on Dill, it will show you basic steps to get started. However, I would recommend you check the official documentation as it is more detailed and reliable.

In the above image, you can see the chain details that you will need inorder to set your validator test node. (Test tokens enables you to stake)
To add this chain to your crypto wallet simple open the wallet; In my case I am using Metamask. Follow the below steps to add Dill testnet.
Open your wallet
Click on the network icon.
Now Click on the Custom network tab. This will allow you add the network .



Now add in the details and your wallet is ready. Next, you need to fund this wallet with testnet tokens $DILL. Usually you get them via a faucet or through the community of the project.
Once your wallet is funded make sure to copy your mnemonic phrase and keep it ready in a text file.

Now, you need to install the Dill node via the official technical documentation. Simply copy the code and paste it in your command line.
As you proceed, the command line will ask you to paste the mnemonic phrase. This will trigger and set your node to run. It is important to note that not all projects have the same technical discourse. Each project will have its own path or process. Stay in the game &understand how all of this works.

Note: If you are a non techie like me make use of AI to learn and employ simple commands. You can take a screenshot of any error that you run into. Simply ask AI to give you a solution. Trust me this works!

Kindly Note: Do not use wallets that have tokens on the mainnet. The world of web3 is a rabbit hole. Be careful. Do not enter any sensitive information like your email, number, seed phrase or literally anything in open source networks.
