Portugal can win EURO 2024. Looking at the squads of the countries that will be partipating in the next EURO in June, Portugal is certainly one of the favourites to win this year´s cup. See why through this article.

Portugal EURO history

Portugal has participated in the UEFA European Championship eight times before, with the upcoming tournament being their ninth appearance. In 2004, they were the hosts and nearly emerged victorious, losing narrowly to Greece in the final. The team featured notable players like Rui Costa, Luís Figo, and a young Cristiano Ronaldo. By 2016, they claimed their first Euro title with an unexpected win over France, marked by an unlikely goal from Éder. Cristiano Ronaldo's early injury in the final match led to speculation that it actually helped the team win, as they were said to rely too heavily on him.

Portugal biggest stars

Portugal counts with a extensive depth of quality players that play in the top 5 leagues and players with lots of potential. Besides Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal counts with Bernardo Silva (Manchester City), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Rafael Leão (AC Milan), Diogo Jota (Liverpool), João Félix (Barcelona), João Cancelo (Barcelona), Rúben Dias (Manchester City), Diogo Costa (Porto), Pallhinha (Fulham) and Matheus Nunes (Manchester City). These are the best players, Ântónio Silva and João Neves from Benfica have a huge potential and Nuno Mendes from PSG.

This will be Cristiano Ronaldo last EURO

At 39 years old, this will be most likely the last time we will see Cristiano Ronaldo in a EURO championship. Since it goes every 4 years, with 43 years of age is very uncommon to see a player still competing at this high level, even for Cristiano standards.

What do you think?
