Athletic Malinois dogs who skydive and work for the Navy Seals
This breed of dog is not new at all, but its rise is in recent decades. They are gradually becoming more and more popular in our country, especially among owners who have the time and energy to raise such an athletic pet.
This is the Belgian Malinois breed, also known as the Belgian Shepherd. Its name comes from the region of Belgium where these dogs were originally bred as shepherds.
Due to their qualities, they became part of the police and army in their homeland already a century ago. They are gradually being used by the military, law enforcement, border control and customs in more and more countries around the world, and their popularity is growing with it.
Malinois "worked" as messengers and paramedics as early as the First World War - they searched for wounded soldiers and carried first aid medicines to the battlefield. They were even used to pull cannons.
Agile, muscular and fearless, Malinois are a medium-sized breed - weighing 27-28 kg. and are 56 to 66 cm long.
Their fur is short, often ash or reddish in color and darker ears, head and tail. They are light, elegant, look like acrobats, and can act like one - they jump very well both in height and in length, and they are able to slip through all kinds of obstacles.
Their intelligence ensures that they can be trained for any task, but they also require a lot of training and patience.
Malinois are also quite curious, and combined with their huge reserves of energy, this means they need to be constantly occupied. Otherwise, they find it on their own, and the owner rarely likes the result. This is not a breed that would stay for hours alone at home
