DARKNESS IS EVIL.
Some minutes ago, I was in a room in the house ironing my clothes when there was a sudden power outage. I looked around and could see nothing. The design of that room made it practically impossible to see any leak of light during those moments. Even with good eye sight, what you would see is pitch darkness, as in, total darkness blacker than black.
The first thing that came to my mind was prayer. Not because I was scared of the dark, no! But because, the sudden darkness opened my eyes to deeper insight. The darkness defiled my good vision and my movement out of the room was extremely slow as I had to feel my way around in order to make it out. God forbid! .
Getting out of the room became secondary. My primary and immediate aim was to beg God to always keep me out of darkness. The knowledge of the fact that living in darkness is both like living in total ignorance and stagnation, was raw and very tangible during those eerie moments.
As I moved out, I felt a curtain, then a wall, then further on, I felt the glass door which I slid to the side to enter the living room. After the short prayer back in the very dark room, at the back of my mind was a resounding chorus which was part of our daily family confession during my days in the Grace Family House: “I am the light of the world. A city that is set on the hill that cannot be hidden.
