The things I valued the most are no longer a part of my life.
And those who were most crucial have since disappeared.

Future aspirations and longings
don't exist at all.
And I regretfully miss the person I used to be.

My old life's memories
leave my heart broken and serve as a painful reminder of reality and the need for change.

This world is so unpredictable.
One day you will vanish from everyone's memory.
They merely leave you far behind; you're not required or appreciated.

I've battled through some hopeless situations, through violent storms and waves.
My entire life has been a struggle.
It wasn't easy getting here for me.

I have earned the right to be old.
I've accomplished an accomplishment by surviving.
I made mistakes, but I also learned from them, and I can proudly say that now.

What about my gold medals?
There, in lights, is my name.
Although I wasn't the prettiest or sharpest, I put up a pretty good fight!

Where are all the thunderous cheers and "Way to go!" cries?
Where are all the compliments I believe I should be receiving?

I'll then sing my own praises and give myself a hearty high five.
You put up a brave battle and are still very much alive today.

You have a soul that has preserved its radiance and a heart of gold.
You've sacrificed, lost, and fallen in love.
Even though you weren't flawless, you tried.

And I say to all elderly people who have lived over the age of 40, "You are truly Golden Hero
es. May you live for a hundred more!"
