India to Launch Seven Singaporean Satellites on July 30 🚀

India is gearing up for another spectacular space mission on July 30, 2023, when it will launch seven Singaporean satellites using its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). This will be the PSLV’s second mission this year and the 90th space mission of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
What are the satellites and why are they important?
🛰️The main satellite of the PSLV-C56 mission is the DS-SAR, a 360-kg satellite developed by Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and ST Engineering. DS-SAR stands for Dual-Sided Synthetic Aperture Radar, which is a type of radar that can produce high-resolution images of the Earth’s surface under all weather conditions and at any time of the day or night.

- SCOOB-II, a 3U nanosatellite that will fly a technology demonstrator payload for space situational awareness.
- NuLIoN by NuSpace, an advanced 3U nanosatellite that will enable seamless IoT connectivity in both urban and remote locations.
- Galassia-2, a 3U nanosatellite that will orbit at low earth orbit and test various subsystems and payloads.
- ORB-12 STRIDER, a satellite developed under an international collaboration that will demonstrate a new propulsion system and a novel deployable structure.
🛰️These satellites will showcase the diversity and innovation of Singapore’s space sector and provide valuable data and services for various applications.
How will the launch take place?
🚀The launch will take place from the first launchpad at ISRO’s Sriharikota spaceport in Andhra Pradesh at 6.30 am IST. The PSLV-C56 will be configured in its core-alone mode, which means it will not have any strap-on boosters. This mode is suitable for launching lighter satellites into low earth orbit.
🛰️The PSLV-C56 will inject the DS-SAR satellite into a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of about 500 km and an inclination of 97.5 degrees. The co-passenger satellites will be released into different orbits according to their requirements.
🛰️The launch has been procured by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), a central public sector undertaking under the Department of Space, which is responsible for marketing ISRO’s products and services. NSIL has signed a contract with DSTA and ST Engineering to deploy the DS-SAR satellite using the PSLV-C56.
