EVM Wallet
As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, an EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) wallet typically refers to a wallet that is compatible with the Ethereum blockchain and its smart contract functionality. The Ethereum Virtual Machine is the runtime environment for executing smart contracts on the Ethereum network.
Wallets compatible with the Ethereum blockchain can be broadly categorized into two types:
- Software Wallets:
- Desktop Wallets: These are applications installed on a computer, and they can be used to store, send, and receive Ethereum and other ERC-20 tokens. Examples include MyEtherWallet (MEW), MetaMask, and Mist.
- Mobile Wallets: These wallets are designed for use on mobile devices. Examples include Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, and Argent.
- Web Wallets: These are online wallets that you can access through a web browser. MetaMask, MyEtherWallet (MEW), and Coinbase Wallet can also be used as web wallets.
- Hardware Wallets:
- These are physical devices that store your Ethereum private keys offline, providing an extra layer of security. Examples include Ledger Nano S, Ledger Nano X, and Trezor.
It's worth noting that the Ethereum blockchain supports various standards like ERC-20 (for fungible tokens) and ERC-721 (for non-fungible tokens or NFTs). Any wallet compatible with the Ethereum network should be able to interact with these standards.
