Shearer hails Awoniyi for Nottingham Forest victory over Liverpool

Alan Shearer, a legend of the English Premier League, included Nottingham Forest because striker Taiwo Awoniyi in his EPL Team of the Week after praising him Taiwo for his performance against Liverpool, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

The newly promoted Trees shocked the Anfield giants, who last season advanced to the Champions League Final, when the 25-year-old scored the game's sole goal.

Since joining Forest, Awoniyi has performed admirably, and with three goals from his first three starts, he leads the squad in goals scored.

However, manager Steve Cooper hasn't always given him a spot in the starting lineup, and he's been competing with fellow countryman Emmanuel Dennis for playing time.

The Nigerian international will now be hoping that a run of games would result from his heroics last weekend.

Awoniyi was included in Shearer's Team of the Week because, in his words, "it's not every day you score the winner against Liverpool." Shearer was obviously impressed.
Awoniyi joined the Reds last summer after leaving Union Berlin for £17.5 million.
