Liverpool told to ‘name their price’ for Salah as forward asks Reds to meet two conditions for stay
Liverpool have been told to ‘name their price’ for Mohamed Salah by Saudi Arabian clubs looking to buy him in the summer, according to reports.
The 31-year-old has once again been in great form for the Reds this season with Salah contributing 19 goals and nine assists in all competitions.
Liverpool are braced for more bids this summer
Liverpool rejected a £150m bid for Salah from Al-Ittihad in the summer transfer window with reports at the time claiming the Saudi Pro League side were even prepared to offer as much as £200m.
However, Liverpool made it clear to Al-Ittihad at the time that they had no intention of selling Salah at any price with a player of his quality extremely hard to replace.
There are already rumours that Al-Ittihad or other Saudi Arabian clubs will come back in this summer for Salah as they look to make him the new face of the league.
And Football Insider claims that the Reds are ‘prepared to face a huge bid from Saudi Arabia’ for Salah this summer with the Saudi Pro League ‘keen to make Salah a marquee signing as they strive to grow the popularity of their competition with big-money arrivals’.

Sources have told Football Insider that Liverpool ‘can essentially “name their price” for Salah with Saudi willing to table a huge deal to lure him to the Middle East.’
Another report from the same website insists that Salah is ‘happy to stay at Liverpool beyond the summer transfer window but there are two caveats to it happening’.
The Egypt international ‘wants assurances over the club’s future plans and wants to know who the club intend to appoint as manager this summer to replace Jurgen Klopp’.
Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is currently favourite to take over from Klopp in the summer after the German announced he would be leaving at the end of the season to take a break from football.
Mohamed Salah: Players have left already, very important players
And asked if Klopp’s departure would have an impact on his future at Liverpool, Salah told Sky Sports over the weekend: “No. It’s part of life now, that everything moves.
“Players have left already, very important players. The manager is also very important for the club and is leaving. One day I will leave the club, but no [Klopp leaving doesn’t affect my future].”
Explaining how the Liverpool players found out about Klopp leaving, Salah added: “Usually we don’t do meetings at 10.30am, as 10.30 is the report time. It’s normally a 10.30 meet time and then 12 noon training. Then they said there was a meeting at 10.30am. I was like: ‘What?’
“The manager’s agent was there at the training ground and I thought: ‘Oh, he’s renewing his contract’.
“And five minutes before the meeting, Virgil [van Dijk] said: ‘Do you know what the meeting is about?’
“I said no. He said: ‘The manager is leaving’.
“I said: ‘Really, the manager is leaving? You serious? Why?’
“He said: ‘No idea’.
“Then the manager came in and he just said it and it was weird because no-one knew before. There was nothing in the media. He didn’t even prepare us for that, he just said it. That was a weird day for us and for the club.”

Mike Dean takes aim at ‘bang out of order’ Premier League referee over viral fan clip
Former Premier League referee Mike Dean has hit out at Sunny Singh Gill for signing autographs at half time while taking charge of his maiden top-flight fixture on Saturday.
Singh Gill became the first referee of British South Asian heritage to take charge of a Premier League match during Saturday’s draw between Crystal Palace and Luton Town.
The game ended 1-1 when Luton’s Cauley Woodrow scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time, cancelling out Jean-Philippe Mateta’s 11th-minute opener.
Singh Gill was spotted signing autographs for young fans before heading down the tunnel at half time at Selhurst Park, raising a debate over whether referees should court public attention.

Dean, who retired at the end of the 2021/22 season after more than two decades as an official, has taken a dim view of Singh Gill’s decision to stop to sign autographs at the interval at Selhurst Park.
Asked during an appearance on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday programme if he signed autographs during his career, Dean said: “I did, after about 300 games!
“I don’t see the point, he’s on a hiding to nothing now.
“If something happens in the second half, which I’ll guarantee the way refereeing goes sometimes, but you don’t sign autographs.
“Maybe when you’re warming up before the game but not at half time when you’ve got a game to do.
“It’s just bang out of order.”
Oliver Glasner, the Crystal Palace manager, congratulated Singh Gill after the match and praised his performance.
He said: “It was a good performance.
“It’s always a good performance for a referee if he doesn’t decide the game for one of the teams and it was a good game. It was not too difficult to whistle, there were no strange situations.
“It was good and aggressive, but not brutal so a good performance and congratulations to the referee for his first game in the Premier League.”
Singh Gill’s maiden Premier League fixture made him the seventh referee outside the select group of Professional Game Match Official Limited (PGMOL) officials to take charge of a top-flight match this season, following in the footsteps of Sam Allison, Sam Barrott, Bobby Madley, Josh Smith, Rebecca Welch and Lewis Smith.
Allison became the first black official to oversee a Premier League fixture since Uriah Rennie in 2008 when he took charge of Luton’s 3-2 victory over Sheffield United on Boxing Day.
That came three days after Welch became the first female referee in Premier League history, taking the whistle for Burnley’s 2-0 win over Fulham.

Ratcliffe sanctions first Man Utd buy as move for ‘important player’ confirmed after big change
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester United are planning to sign an ‘important’ new left-back once the structure of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s boardroom is ‘completed’.
United are already undergoing some big changes after the confirmation of Ratcliffe’s 25 per cent stake in the club. The fact the businessman is taking over footballing operations is a big one.
That’s likely to see a lot of money shelled, but Ratcliffe is being smart in appointing the right people around him to ensure recruitment on the field is done right.
The appointment of former Manchester City man Omar Berrada as Chief Executive Officer is a big one given his successful background.
Football director Dan Ashworth’s move to Old Trafford from Newcastle United is likely to be done soon, too, after reports suggested the Red Devils have agreed to pay £21million to the North East outfit in order to gain his services.
And after the big boardroom changes are completed, United will get to work on sourcing some fresh talent.
That’s according to transfer insider Romano, who confirms that a ‘shortlist’ for a new left-back will be decided once the board structure is in place.
He states that is a position that will be improved upon ‘no matter what happens’ with Tyrell Malacia.

Romano details profile United are looking for
According to Romano, a new left-back signing in the summer window is a plan that’s been in place for ‘months’.
It seems there’s a good chance it was one of the first things Ratcliffe identified for the Red Devils.
Romano states the new signing is going to be an ‘important player’ for the club, and it’s expected it will be a ‘young’ asset.
While it’s not clear who’s on that list yet, given it seems to be a crucial addition for Ratcliffe, United could spend a good sum of money on improving the position.
New left-back a necessity
United have been forced to chop and change at left-back this season.
Malacia – signed in 2022 – is yet to step foot onto the pitch this term, and did not cover himself in glory when he was available last season. As such, it’s of little surprise that United will look to sign a new man in his position whether or not he becomes available.
Luke Shaw has also been burdened with injuries throughout the season, and that’s mean Victor Lindelof has had to fill in at left-back, despite naturally being a central defender.
Shaw is capable of playing in the heart of defence as well, so if a new man is deemed to be a better option than him on the left when he’s available, there’s a chance he could simply shift inside.
In any case, on this season’s showing, a new left-back is needed for consistency at United.

Pochettino sack: Chelsea boss addresses Mourinho return talk; tells stars ‘to speak to Boehly’ if they want him axed
Under-pressure Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has challenged his players to go and speak to the club’s owners if they want him removed as manager, having laid down a warning about speculation he could be replaced by Jose Mourinho as manager.
The Blues have struggled to find any sort of consistency this season, with Chelsea currently finding themselves top of the bottom half of the Premier League and having managed just 10 wins and suffering 10 defeats from their 26 matches played so far. But having overseen another vast influx of costly new signings last summer, patience is seemingly wearing thin at Stamford Bridge.
Indeed, co-owner Todd Boehly has lavishly spent over £1bn in pursuit of trying to elevate the Blues back among the Premier League elite. Ironically, current incumbent Pochettino now finds himself in a remarkably similar position to where Graham Potter was last April when the axe was brought down on his reign at the club.
IN DEPTH ~ Pochettino sack: Assessing the eight candidates who could replace the under-fire Chelsea boss
That pressure has intensified in the wake of last month’s Carabao Cup final heartache to Liverpool, when Chelsea wasted a glorious chance to claim a first trophy since the 2021 Champions League final in a Wembley showdown against Jurgen Klopp’s patched up and largely-inexperienced side.
Yet despite coming close to winning the game in regular time, Pochettino and Co let Liverpool off the hook with punishment arriving in the fullest just two minutes from the end of extra time when Virgil van Dijk rose to head home the winner.

That led to Gary Neville firing both barrels at Chelsea, labelling them ‘Blue billion pound bottle jobs’ and with speculation over Pochettino’s future rising as a result.
Pochettino responds to Chelsea sack talk and makes Mourinho admission
Pochettino, however, is adamant he still has the support of co-owners Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, claiming he received a call from both men within hours of that Wembley disappointment to offer him words of encouragement.
Nonetheless, reports over his potential removal as manager continue to do the rounds and amid claims two former Blues bosses in Mourinho and Thomas Tuchel have been shortlisted as possible successors.
Despite that, Pochettino is likely to be judged on his ability to qualify for European competition once again next season, with the Blues able to close the gap on seventh – which is widely seen as the benchmark needed to achieve that – to just four points if they can beat Newcastle in the Monday Night Football.
There is also the small matter that Chelsea fans have been heard chanting Mourinho’s name in recent games, leading the Argentine to be once again asked about his future.
And in a challenge to his players, he has told them: “If the players believe that with another coach they can do better, maybe they can talk with the owner or sporting director.
“Do you see me worried about this? No. Is it a problem of attitude? No. You can see in the way they behave that they are behind us. Of course there is no doubt.
“They are doing everything to try to win. And to try to give their best. There is no doubt about that.”
Asked specifically about Mourinho replacing him, Pochettino added: “I respect Jose, he is my friend. He was amazing for this club, his memories here are amazing. Circumstance is circumstance.
“We need to be pushing and believe in ourselves and accept the things that come from the fans — respect the fans.”
Mourinho discusses chances of Stamford Bridge return
Pochettino insists that Mourinho – who won seven major trophies during two spells at Stamford Bridge – would be returning to a very different club were he to take up a third stint in charge.
“It is a different project, today is a different Chelsea,” Pochettino added, before declaring: “If you are going to judge us and analyse the situation compared to the past of Chelsea, no one is going to win, no one is going to succeed.
“The fans are not going to love another coach of Chelsea any more. People need to understand that it is different. I try to explain but it’s like I move my mouth and they don’t hear anything.”
Mourinho himself, meanwhile, has also broken his silence over his future.
The 61-year-old is out of work after leaving Roma earlier this season and appears keen to return to management at the next big opportunity.
“I’m not in a rest, I want to work,” he told BeIN Sport.
“I want to work but I just don’t want to have the wrong decision. I have to wait for the right one, the one that motivates me. But if I could work tomorrow I would work tomorrow.”
Pochettino has a 45.95% win success rate at Chelsea, while Mourinho, by contrast, managed 67.03% in his first spell and 58.82% the second time around.

Tottenham to rival Everton for club’s most valuable player, as Dyche masterplan comes under threat
Everton could now struggle to sign Hull City star Jacob Greaves, as Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the race for him.
Greaves is a 23-year-old defender who came through the Hull academy before making his first-team debut for The Tigers in September 2020. The centre-back has proven to be a reliable player for Hull, having played at least 38 matches in each of the last three seasons.
Greaves is well on course to repeat that achievement this term, having featured in 36 of Hull’s 37 Championship games. Greaves has also captained Hull on four occasions this season, most recently in the 2-1 victory over Huddersfield on February 17 – during which he netted both of his team’s goals.
Greaves stands at 6ft 3in, which makes him an imposing figure in both boxes. He is also good at playing out from the back, a trait Premier League clubs love.
The centre-half, who can also operate at left-back, has previously been linked with Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Brentford.
But on Tuesday, it emerged that Everton have firmly set their sights on him. Sean Dyche knows that current defender Jarrad Branthwaite could leave in the summer, amid interest from Manchester United, and the manager views Greaves as a solid replacement.

Selling Branthwaite and bringing Greaves in would make financial sense for Everton. While Man Utd will have to pay between £80-100million for Branthwaite, Greaves is Hull’s most valuable player on transfermarkt at £12m.
However, Everton will not have it all their own way in the pursuit of the Englishman. As per the Daily Mirror and Sky Sports, Tottenham have burst into the race him.
Tottenham might add Hull star to defensive ranks
Tottenham signed Radu Dragusin in the January transfer window, who will provide Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero with cover and competition for a starting spot in central defence.
But signing Greaves too will stop Ange Postecoglou having to use full-back Emerson Royal at centre-half, should any of his other options get injured.
Adding Greaves to the Tottenham squad will also help Postecoglou prepare for a gruelling campaign in 2024-25.
Following their 4-0 rout at Aston Villa earlier on Sunday, Spurs are in a great position to leapfrog Unai Emery’s side and move into fourth spot. That could in turn guarantee them a place in next season’s Champions League.
