The Beginning of All Games: Tetris
Tetris is a puzzle game created in 1984 by Soviet computer engineer and computer scientist Alexey Pajitnov. The story of the game is quite interesting and takes place in the atmosphere of the cold war era.
Alexey Pajitnov was working on an Elektronika 60 computer to design the game. At the time, he was interested in four-square geometric shapes called tetrominoes, which were used to solve mathematical problems. He decided to design a game by putting these shapes together.
These tetrominoes, which formed the basis of the game, were combined with a game mechanism that disappeared when they fell to the ground and filled a row. The name of the game was a combination of the words "tetromino" and "tennis" and became "Tetris".
Pajitnov decided to share the game because of its simple structure and addictive gameplay. However, computers were limited in the Soviet Union and distribution of the game was under the control of the Soviet government.
In 1986, opportunities arose for Tetris to spread to the West. The Soviet government granted distribution rights to a number of Western companies. These distribution deals contributed to the worldwide popularity of Tetris.
Tetris' popularity grew even more as it was adapted for different platforms and became playable on many different game consoles, computers and cell phones. Today, the game is considered a classic puzzle game and is still played by a wide range of players on many gaming platforms.
With its simple design and simple, yet strategic gameplay, Tetris is an important work that has left a lasting impression on the gaming industry.
