Splinterlands | Armored Units

In Splinterlands, players would have noticed that some cards have armor while others don't. There are also gameplays where we can take a suitable summoner to give armor to unarmored units. The reason is that armored units have initial resistance to melee and ranged attacks (depending on the armor strength) and some level of resistance to magic attacks (if magic hits armor first rule is in play).

Why are we discussing Armored units? Because how good would it be if we had a battle of only armored units? I would love it. But the great part is that there is a relatively new rule that allows armored-only units in battle. I like the gameplay when that rule is in play.

How about we take a look at one battle with the “Armored Only” rule in play? Yes, let’s do it. But before that, shall we spend a minute getting to know Splinterlands? After all, that’s where you will find all these fun battles, abilities, rules, and monsters.

What Game is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. ***The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning.*** By now, you would know that the governance token (SPS) airdrop made millionaires out of the early adopters. It still keeps giving and remains a fun and engaging game.

To give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands, read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying only a few packs worth $20.

And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling them for as high as $6500. In fact, there is a whole Splinterlands marketplace on the Hive blockchain and now on Wax too. And now the sales of the Rebellion packs, the newest of the lot, have also started.

Armored Only Units

The armored units, as we discussed in the opening part, allow some level of resistance in a battle and, therefore, have a chance of surviving longer. That means a good strategy with armored units could land us a win. But when the rule itself allows only armored units, then we are battling on a level playing field.

The battle remains interesting because we can still play around with reinforcing our position by giving additional armor or many other things. Some of the things that we can do are increase the armor by positioning armor-giving units or summoners, armor-piercing units or summoners, magic deflecting armor, and so on. The whole game plan changes when we have this rule in play, and it is fun. 😊

Let’s get on with the battle, then.

The Battle | Frowns and Angry Brows

We will take a look at the rules and then proceed to the battle.

The battle has a 28-mana cap and has four Splinters active. Other than the Earth and Dragon Splinter, every other Splinter is available for the battle. The only active rule is the Armored Only rule. So, we will have only armored units to choose from the entire card base.

So, let’s look at the teams on both sides.

The Face-Off Screen

And here is the lineup.

My team is at the bottom of the screen, while the opponent’s is at the top. While I chose the Fire Splinter, the opponent went with the Life Splinter. I had a combination of melee, ranged, and magic attackers. The opponent, on the other hand, had melee and ranged attackers. I was curious about the opponent’s choice of cards. The opponent’s summoner was a ranged attack enhancer, so we would assume that there would be at least two ranged attackers in the lineup. However, the opponent just had one.

Anyway, let’s see how it goes.

We Battle Hard

The battle was an interesting one.

I think my lone magic monster gave me an advantage over the opponent. It could penetrate the opponent’s armor. By the middle of round 2, the opponent’s tank was done for, whereas all my cards were still intact.

The setup seemed to be in my favor.

And The Battle Races to Conclusion

The battle, indeed, raced to conclusion.

It was close to the end of round 4, where the opponent folded up. Interestingly, it was once again my magic monster that brought down the curtains. A fitting end to the game.

I won. 😊

A Hard-Fought Battle | An Interesting Result

To be honest, neither the opponent nor I used any big strategies for this battle. I think the opponent just brought the available team to battle. In my case, at least, using a magic monster in an armored battle proved to be useful. As a result, I won.

I loved the battle. How about you? I hope you enjoyed reading about the battle, too. You can also look at it live in the links provided below. Have fun! 😊

Namaste!
