Tron to Launch Gas-Free Stablecoin Transfer Feature


Justin Sun, the founder of the Tron blockchain, announced that his team is developing a new feature enabling peer-to-peer (P2P) transfers of stablecoins without any gas fees. This innovative service is set to roll out in the fourth quarter of 2024.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on July 6, Sun detailed that the Tron network would soon support stablecoin transfers without requiring users to pay gas fees. Instead, the cost of these transactions will be covered by the stablecoins being transferred.

"We plan to launch this service in the fourth quarter of this year. I believe this service will greatly simplify the implementation of stablecoin services on blockchains for large enterprises, bringing blockchain adoption to a higher level," Sun stated.


Initially, this groundbreaking feature will be implemented on the Tron blockchain. Following this, the support will extend to Ethereum and other public networks compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).


Tron Emerges as the Leading Network for P2P Transactions


According to data from Artemis on June 27, 2024, Tron has become the leader in P2P stablecoin transfer volume. The network consistently showcases transfer volumes two to three times larger than Ethereum. This indicates that Tron is more frequently used for payments and money transfers compared to decentralized finance (DeFi) activities.
Artemis highlights that Tron's success is largely driven by stablecoin activity. Tron has seen steady growth across all stablecoin metrics and reached an all-time high circulating supply of $60 billion. The number of addresses using stablecoins on Tron has also hit record levels, surpassing Binance Smart Chain (BSC).

Moreover, Tron has maintained low average transaction fees despite significant activity. The average transaction cost on Tron is currently 90% lower than Bitcoin and more than 80% lower than Ethereum.

In addition to focusing on stablecoin features, Sun previously announced that Tron is exploring the development of a layer-2 solution for Bitcoin that will support a wrapped version of Tether. This initiative is expected to drive billions of dollars into the Bitcoin ecosystem.
