Difference Between Fact and Reality

Reality is everything that exists around us, whether we perceive it or not. For example, buildings, mountains, vehicles, animals, etc. it is real. However, when we perceive all this, it becomes reality. So why is there such a difference? Because we can only know as much of everything that exists as we perceive, right? Although reality includes everything that exists independently of us, our perceptions are necessary for reality. In other words, we can actually perceive as much of reality as our brain can interpret, and our brain creates reality.

Can Reality Be Deceptive?

Perception is the interpretation of the things around us by our 5 senses by our brain. The brain does not see, smell, hear, feel or taste. Instead, it interprets the signals transmitted through some tools (eyes, nose, tongue, ear and our skin). Actually, there is no such thing as color. Color is the transmission of light refraction to our brain through our eyes and our brain's interpretation of it. Likewise, there is no sound or smell. Our ears and nose transform the signals they receive and send them to the brain, and we actually feel everything in our brain. Here, as we see, a difference arises between truth and reality.

You can see the perception test below by pressing the "Before" and "After" tabs. What do you see when you look at the colors of the regions named A and B?

As you can see in the example above, our brain actually creates a reality by combining the pieces on its own. It perceives light and shadow by seeing it with our eyes and transmitting it to our brain. Thus, it allows us to perceive a reality that does not actually exist.

For example, there is no such thing as probability or coincidence. There are only results that we cannot calculate. Everything has a reason, but since we do not always know the reasons, we cannot predict the consequences. To put it briefly, we actually perceive limited aspects of everything we perceive.

The organ we call the brain communicates with small electrical signals from different points, and with these connections, what we call mind emerges. But the vast majority of these are formed by the age of four, and our life after that generally consists of these neurological connections. These bonds are what make us who we are. Our entire reality is formed according to this. In fact, this is exactly how the foundation of our own reality is laid.

Social Values and Reality

During this period, our social relationships and most importantly our parents and family come into play in the formation of our reality. Our family, the neighborhood we live in, culture, school, etc. They all play a role in creating our reality.

But does this always help us grow healthy? Of course, all these social environments approach with good intentions. But even though we do not actually choose any of them, the opinions of that community automatically become our opinions. Our brain creates a template and our entire perception moves within this template. Instead of the principle of causality that will make us grow, habits begin to take place. Even if we learn something new, it is very difficult to get out of this pattern. We need a very strong dynamic to change this.

All these factors create a filter in us, and we only perceive the part of reality that passes through that filter. This is also called reality. Reality is actually the way reality is interpreted by the person.

So, if we can only know as much of everything as we can perceive, do we really know God? How will we know God, how will we know him? Do we believe in the real God who actually created us, or in the God we created in our own reality? Thankfully, God does not leave our perception of Him to chance.

Jesus Christ says in the Bible: “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
