Cara Delevingne



Cara Jocelyn Delevingne was born on August 12, 1992, in Hammersmith, London, to property developer Charles Hamar Delevingne and Pandora Stevens. Raised in Belgravia, London, she has two older sisters, including Poppy Delevingne, and a paternal half-brother. Delevingne's maternal grandfather, Sir Jocelyn Stevens, was a publishing executive and chairman of English Heritage, related to magazine publisher Sir Edward George Warris Hulton and newspaper proprietor Sir Edward Hulton.


Her maternal grandmother, Janie Sheffield, a descendant of Sir Berkeley Sheffield, served as a lady-in-waiting to Princess Margaret. Through her maternal great-great-grandfather, Sir Lionel Lawson Faudel-Phillips, 3rd Baronet, Delevingne traces her lineage to the Anglo-Jewish Faudel-Phillips baronets, with two ancestors on that line having served as Lord Mayor of London. Through the Sheffield baronets, she is a direct descendant of historical figures like Charlemagne, King of the Franks; William the Conqueror; James IV of Scotland; and William I, Prince of Orange.


Dame Joan Collins and Sir Nicholas Coleridge are her godparents. Delevingne attended Francis Holland School for Girls in central London until the age of 16, then moved to Bedales School in Steep, Hampshire. Despite facing challenges due to dyspraxia, she continued her education. In an interview with Vogue in June 2015, Delevingne discussed her struggles with depression at the age of 15, revealing her battle with overwhelming emotions and self-hatred.
After completing her GCSEs at 16, she shifted to Bedales School in Hampshire to focus on drama and music. After a year, she decided to pursue a career in modeling, following her sister Poppy's footsteps, and dropped out of school.


Cara Jocelyn Delevingne, born on August 12, 1992, in Hammersmith, London, began her modeling career at the age of ten with an editorial shoot by Bruce Weber for Vogue Italia alongside model Lady Eloise Anson. She signed with Storm Management in 2009 and, after a year in the industry and two seasons of castings, landed her first paying job.


Delevingne was discovered by Burberry's Christopher Bailey while working part-time for a fashion website. Bailey cast her in Burberry's spring/summer 2011 campaign. Her first catwalk appearance was at the February 2011 London Fashion Week for Burberry Prorsum A/W collection. She continued to make waves in the fashion world, walking for renowned designers and brands across New York, London, Milan, and Paris Fashion Weeks.


Her association with Chanel's head designer and creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, began during Paris Fashion Week, where she walked in seven shows. Lagerfeld praised her uniqueness, saying, Cara is different. She's full of life, full of pep. I like girls to be wild but at the same time beautifully brought up and very funny.


Delevingne's international fashion journey continued, with over 50 shows during one season. She also appeared in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in November 2012. Her runway presence extended to the Chanel pre-fall 2013 show in Scotland and the Valentino Haute Couture show. She consistently walked in major fashion weeks, including New York, London, Milan, and Paris, showcasing collections for renowned designers.In 2013, Delevingne participated in the Chanel Cruise show in Singapore, marking the first time Chanel held such an event in Asia. Her runway appearances continued in the following years, demonstrating her enduring influence in the fashion industry.


2012–2014: Transition to acting and continued modelling


Cara Delevingne has expanded her creative pursuits beyond modeling, venturing into music and fashion design. In collaboration with Pharrell Williams, she co-created the song CC the World for the short Chanel film Reincarnation, in which both artists starred. The song was publicly released on December 1, 2014. Delevingne and Pharrell performed the song live during the Chanel show at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City in March 2015.


Fashion

Delevingne released the music video for her song I Feel Everything from the film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Additionally, she provided background vocals for the song Pills on St. Vincent's 2017 studio album, Masseduction. St. Vincent is an American musician and Delevingne's former partner from 2014 to 2016. Delevingne's backing vocals are also featured on the title track of Fiona Apple's 2020 album, Fetch the Bolt Cutters.
In the realm of fashion, Delevingne has designed two collections for DKNY and four collections for Mulberry. The DKNY capsule collection, described as mostly unisex, showcased sporty street-style items such as beanie hats and leather jackets. The collection, announced two years prior, was released on October 15, 2014.


Her Mulberry collections include a variety of items like rucksacks, handbags, purses, iPad sleeves, phone covers, zipped pouches, and passport holders. The fourth and latest Mulberry collection was released on June 3, 2015. Delevingne's foray into music and fashion design demonstrates her versatility and creativity beyond the runway.


Cara Delevingne is an advocate for diversity and openness, openly identifying as bisexual and pansexual. In June 2015, she confirmed her relationship with American musician St. Vincent, and they separated in September 2016. In May 2018, she came out as genderfluid and uses she/her pronouns. She later confirmed a relationship with actress and model Ashley Benson in June 2019, and they split in April 2020. Since 2022, Delevingne has been dating musician Leah Mason, also known as Minke.


Beyond her personal life, Delevingne is passionate about environmental causes. She founded EcoResolution, an environmental justice platform with Advaya, and actively supports wildlife conservation. In 2015, she auctioned off her personal TAG Heuer watch to raise funds for WildCRU after the killing of Cecil the lion, raising 18,600.


Cara Delevingne is an outspoken advocate for climate change awareness. She has given speeches on the subject and supports stronger environmental regulations. Delevingne believes in making ecocide an international crime and has actively promoted environmental justice through various initiatives.


Delevingne alleged that producer Harvey Weinstein sexually harassed her and attempted to kiss her without consent. Despite declining, she was cast in the film Tulip Fever, and she regretted it due to the producer's actions.In a 2023 interview, Delevingne shared that she had become sober in the previous few months and followed a twelve-step program during her recovery.


Cara Delevingne has several tattoos, each holding personal significance. These include representations of her zodiac sign, a lion, her lucky number XII, and a tribute to her late grandmother in the form of an elephant tattoo. She has various other tattoos with meanings ranging from family connections to messages like breathe deep" and don't worry be happy.
