Pyth Governance: A Guide to Staking PYTH Tokens

The Pyth Network's permissionless mainnet launch on November 20th, 2023, opened the door for token holders to participate in governance. As a vital member of the Pyth ecosystem, you are invited to shape its future. By staking your $PYTH in the Pyth staking program, you gain the power to influence key decisions through governance votes. This is more than just an investment; it's your opportunity to steer the course of the Pyth Network's evolution.

The Importance of Staking in Pyth Governance

Staking your $PYTH goes beyond mere participation; it places you at the heart of the network's governance. The on-chain governance process you will be part of involves crucial aspects of the protocol such as:

• Defining reward structures for data providers
• Setting the scale and currency of oracle fees
• Selecting the price feeds featured on the network

Your voice and vote matter in these pivotal decisions.

The Pyth Staking Website

To begin, visit the Pyth Staking website here. The site guides you through three actions:

• Stake: Engage in governance by staking your tokens. Your stake becomes vote-eligible at the start of the next epoch (Thursdays at 00:00 UTC, lasting 7 days).
• Unstake: Unstaked tokens lose governance voting rights. You can withdraw your tokens after a cooldown period of one epoch.

Withdraw: Seamlessly transfer tokens back to your Staking Your Tokens

1. Initiate Staking: Select "STAKE" and enter your desired $PYTH amount.
2. Confirm Transaction: Approve the transaction in your wallet.
3. Track Your Stake: View your staked tokens and their voting eligibility in the Staked box.

Your involvement in governance starts with the next epoch, empowering you to vote on critical network decisions.
It will show your initial amount of staked tokens (eligible to vote) and between parenthesis the amount that will become eligible when the next epoch starts.

Unstaking Your Tokens

Unstaking is a straightforward process:

1. Navigate to "UNSTAKE" and specify the token amount.
2. Confirm the transaction in your Solana wallet.
3. Await the cooldown period's end to access your tokens.

This process ensures you have the flexibility to manage your investment while contributing to the network's governance.
The cooldown period is one epoch after the current one ends. So if you unstake on a Monday, your tokens will be unstaked, and able to withdraw your tokens the Thursday of the following week.
Like the Staking, you will see your amount of unstaked tokens (that can be withdrawn) and the amount that will become withdrawable between parenthesis when the current epoch ends.

Withdrawing Your Tokens

Withdrawing your tokens is a hassle-free process:

1. Go to the "WITHDRAW" tab.
2. Enter the amount of $PYTH you wish to withdraw.
3. Confirm the transaction in your Solana wallet, and the tokens return to your wallet.
