Solana Achieves Title of Most Popular Blockchain in Early 2024

CoinGecko assessed interest in blockchain ecosystems based on non-bot global web traffic from January 1 to March 18, 2024.

The results reveal that the Solana ecosystem has emerged as the most popular blockchain ecosystem throughout this year, contributing to 49.3% of global crypto investor interest in specific chain narratives, according to CoinGecko's report.


Solana's performance is supported by several factors, one of which is its resurgence to its highest level in 2021. This bullish momentum has not only propelled Solana itself but also supported the performance of major ecosystem projects such as Pyth and original meme coins like dogwifhat.

Following Solana is Ethereum, attracting 12.7% of investor interest. This blockchain is known for its established reputation and growing activity in layer-2 networks. Next is the Binance Smart Chain, garnering 5.4% of investor interest. The outstanding performance of BNB, nearing its all-time high, has made a significant contribution to the ecosystem.

Delving into the landscape, other layer-1 blockchain ecosystems are competing for attention. The Cosmos ecosystem, backed by the success of its airdrops and interchain theses, attracts 4.5% of investor interest, while Avalanche follows with 3.9%, driven by original meme coins and its potential in the crypto gaming space.

Layer-2 Dominated by Arbitrum and Base

In the realm of layer-2 ecosystems, Arbitrum and Base emerge as the frontrunners, with 3.3% and 3.2% of investor interest, respectively. Their popularity stems from factors such as total locked value and affiliations with leading entities like Coinbase.

Although the collective layer-2 Ethereum ecosystem contributes 11.9% of investor interest, indicating the increasing importance of scaling solutions, lesser-known players like Optimism and Starknet still remain outside the top 20.
