Fortune Telling and Witchcraft
In this modern age we live in, we see with sadness and surprise that perhaps hundreds of thousands of people in our society resort to witchcraft, fortune-telling, amulets and similar supernatural spiritual methods, and unfortunately, they hope for help from demonic teachers, amulet sellers, fortune tellers and mediums.
Some people knock on the doors of fortune tellers, mediums or amulet teachers to get rid of various problems, some for financial expectations, some for school, some for work, some for family problems, and some for psychological problems. One of the most common reasons is that our people are really pessimistic. They have deep pessimism and despair about themselves. This somehow makes them feel like "I must have been put under a spell." Even if they encounter some ordinary difficulties in life, they attribute this to the fact that some of their enemies have somehow cast a spell on them and hidden an amulet somewhere.
Fortune Telling and the Uncertainty of the Future
We may have hopes for the future in our hearts, but we cannot see the future clearly. A voice may whisper in our ear that a fortune teller will give us much strength and much hope. Unfortunately, few of us think, "Can fortune tellers really console us by telling us about the future?" Can they really see the future? Or what good will it do us if we hear bad things?” we think.
Of course, some people may be in close contact with demons and they may actually be involved in such bad things, and they may try to do evil to other people through magic in exchange for money. But what should we do if we encounter such a situation? If our business is not going well and we find an amulet in a corner of our house, what should we do? Should we immediately find a wizard or a demon teacher and seek help from them? Should we fight against such evil enemies by holding their hands?
Single Source – The Bible
The Bible is; He is very clear on the subjects of fortune telling, mediumship, exorcism, amulet making and witchcraft.
“When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn and practice the detestable practices of the nations therein. Let there be no one among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, or who is a fortune teller, a sorcerer, an amulet maker, a medium, or a necromancer, or who consults the spirits of the dead. For the LORD abhors those who do these things. The LORD your God will drive out these nations from before you because of their detestable practices. Be perfect before the LORD your God.” ( Deuteronomy 18:9 – 13)
God warns his people through the prophet Isaiah: ' When someone says to you, "Consult with whispering mediums and spirit conjurers," you say, "Do not the people consult their own God? Should the dead be consulted for the sake of the living? say. It is necessary to return to God's teaching and declaration! If they don't think like this, there will never be a dawn for them ." (Isaiah 8:19 – 20)
We are bound to one God and we must know and learn to trust Him. How can someone who has dealings with Satan say he is living according to God's will?
In the Bible chapter, we see how the incarnate Son of God rules over evil spirits. We read how he freed people held captive by demons. Likewise, we see that Christ's disciples healed the sick and expelled evil spirits with the authority they received from Christ. They were doing such great wonders in the name of Jesus Christ that many people who were practicing witchcraft and fortune telling came to faith. They burned his very expensive books on witchcraft and fortune telling (Acts 19:19). Because they didn't need them anymore. They had found God, the true source of all power.
Once a slave girl possessed by the spirit of fortune telling followed the messengers and constantly said good things about them. However, the Apostle Paul, who was disturbed by this situation, turned to this girl and saved her from the evil spirits in her. He demonstrated the power of prayer and faith and expelled demons. Of course, this situation did not please the girl's owners, who made a lot of money from fortune telling, and they stoned the ambassadors and drove them away (Acts 19:19). I think we need to see here how God cares about human life. In contrast, it is how people exploit other people for money. Another point we need to see is; Although this fortune teller girl constantly shouts good things about the messengers, the messengers do not see this as an opportunity for their own benefit. Well, “here's your fortune teller girl saying wonderful things about us, come follow us!” they could have said. But, of course, they didn't do this. They did not cooperate with the devil for God. Satan is a liar and the father of lies, we can never trust him and one who is in God never needs that.
Fortune Telling and God
'If God is for us, who can be against us?' ' (Romans 8: 31) How can a person who has believed in God, tasted His love in his heart, and received the peace that comes from Him (John 14: 27) go and knock on the doors of fortune tellers, demonic teachers or any medium? While it is possible to be under God's protection, while it is possible to be a member of God's household; Why dive into untrustworthy people, evil forces, spiritual adventures with no end in sight?
We are strong and safe in the Lord Jesus Christ against any attack of the devil or against any uncertainty of the future. We have the shield of faith in our hands, we have a fortress like prayer and a guide like the word of God, so our way is clear. Christ Jesus is ready to take us under his wings and say, “These things I have told you, so that in me you may have peace. You will have troubles in the world, but be brave, I have overcome the world!” (John 16:33)
